I got some info from a Mustang Mach E forum but I thought I would post my buyback experience here.

I purchased a 2024 Hybrid Lariat last year. A few months in, it started having the usual battery saver mode issues which are well documented here. Dealer put new batteries in etc. Didn't help. Its the first vehicle I have ever purchased myself and I decided that I wanted to pursue a buyback since the dealer had been unable to fix it and had actually been quite difficult to work with.

Called this number found in the Mach-E forum - (800) 392-3673 on December 26th
The woman I worked with here was super nice. It took a few weeks for them to review the documentation and stuff like that.

Got approval for a buyback on January 20th. This was just my case being handed over to Ford's RAV (reacquired vehicle) team.

From here, the case went through another review process and generated 2 offers. One was a cash settlement and the other was a buyback. Both offers were low. Over the next few weeks I went back and forth with the offer team and got what I think is a very good offer.

I actually signed the offer February 17th.

Ford sent a packet to the dealer and had to sign some paperwork. Once that was done, I traded my keys for a check and parted ways with my Maverick on February 24th.

A few other notes that may have influenced my experience:
  • Im on the younger side with a good engineering job
  • Purchased and serviced at the same dealer in Illinois
  • This was the first vehicle i have ever purchased with my own money
Overall the buyback experience was really smooth and fast. I expected more pushback, especially on the offers I was getting.

I hope this is helpful for someone. Id be happy to try and answer questions anyone might have about my experience.

Good job! Have you purchased another vehicle yet? Just curious what that will be and your reasons/observations for the newer one. Thanks!

I'm glad that all worked out for you. My case was similar except no negotiating was necessary. The RAV rep just flat out offered the exact figure that was on the sales agreement, including sales tax of course. That is more typical from what I have been told from multiple dealers with experience in this situation. You didn't mention if there was a lien on your vehicle. For the readers it's important to note that they also return any interest you paid since loan origination. I was a cash buyer so the process was quite streamlined. But either way, aside from the inconvenience, it's basically just a reset with no depreciation involved. Of course now one has to shop for a replacement vehicle but that's another story.
