I started getting a strong shimmy in the front of my Maverick when accelerating at highway speeds. It was very strong and unsettling. I called my service manager and he suggested what I expected, the front axels needed to be replaced. I brought it in and the mechanic confirmed the issue. This is my second set of axels on this vehicle. Since they are covered under the 5 year/50K policy the repair was on charge. I understand that many Maverick owners have gotten their axels replaced. Basically the axels are lasting about 25K miles each and my truck is a little over 3 years old.

Here's what I would like some feed back on.

1. I mainly drive in heavy stop and go traffic. Is this normal? Is my truck special.? It's a 2023 Maverick XL Hybrid.

2. Since I am past the 3 year mark, I am starting to contemplate what to replace it with. The frequency of these axel failures does not give me the warm and fuzzy. I love the gas mileage but a major component failing twice after only 3 years and less than 50k is concerning to me. Right now if I had to replace my truck tomorrow, I might consider a new Maverick. Also on my list would possible be (in no particular order): Ford Ranger, Chevy Silverado, Chevy Colorado and mayyybbeee a Tacoma.

Your thoughts? ( I would ask for your .02 but no one has pennies anymore).

Thank you.

Can understand the bad taste in your mouth. I was under the impression that when these went bad, they were replaced with a design that was supposed to be an upgrade and more heavy duty. Was this the case with the second set that was replaced??

My personal thought on this is that all the possible replacements are more expensive than a Maverick. Overall better dependability I am not sure...................

I'm in Wash D.C. Area, 2nd worse traffic. I mostly coast, I don't stop and go. I do it like the truckers do, one speed and let them pass. 50k and I gauge the axles on every acceleration. Not shaking yet. It's called mechanical sympathy and Maverick requires it.

Maybe they put the original part axles in and not the upgrades. Who knows. I would make sure this time it's the upgraded part #.

Ford Maverick Powertrain warranty = 5 yrs / 60k miles

Ford updated the axles in late 2024 and dealers should have gotten the new axles early 2025.

When did your first axle replacement happened? The first axle replacement might have happened before the dealer got the updated axle?

The 2nd axle replacement should be with updated axle.

I am going to verify with my service writer when the first set of axels were replaced.

I checked with my service manager. The first were installed May 2024 at 17K miles and they were probably the original equipment part. The new ones were the new numbers and the upgraded ones.

The new replacement should resolve the CV Axles issues.
