I bought a 22 XL ecoboost AWD with a 4k tow package and no copilot package back in 2021 and received it in Nov. of 21. Next month I'll have had the truck for 4 years. Some thoughts and observations on the truck. I am close to 50,000 miles on it and so far no mechanical issues. I haven't used and abused it (for the most part) but it has been heavily and lightly used over periods during the 4 years. I haven't changed the factory wiper blades either, just periodically wipe them down with WD-40 to clean and rejuvenate the rubber. Cosmetically only issue has been the paint starting to flake along the edges of the hood. Also been lucky thus far with the battery not failing which apparently was an issue with 2022 models. Thank you Ford for the free battery replacement on the recall over this. In my case I did that recall a few weeks ago so this truck is good there for another 5 or so years.

One thing I have noticed the performance starts to drop after about 20,000 or so miles most likely due the piston heads gumming up because the ecoboost engines are gdi and not port injection. What I've found counteracts this is to use a liquid cleaner specifically for this problem. When I first started doing I did it for every other tank of gas for 2 to 3 treatments then once every 5000 miles from there after. The cleaner I've been using is called liqui moly, it is not the only method but is the easiest.

Truck tows like champ still. About a month ago I towed a car with a curb weight of about 3100lbs using a rented tow dolly over 250 miles for someone. Truck still handles like you don't have anything attached. This truck has been by far the easiest truck I've ever driven for towing.

I've changed the tires but that is because I really did not like the stock Continentals so I switched them for A/T tires. I've taken about 1 MPG hit on average but the A/T grip much better so I feel the safety trade off is worth it.

Finally MPG, with the tire change I've averaged about 28.5 MPG combined over 50,000 miles so far. I did want a hybrid but couldn't get one with AWD and a 4k tow package when they came out so will I be trading this in? I'd have to pay about 6 - 7k more for a new one. I paid about 25.5k and to replace it with an equivalent build but with a hybrid instead of an ecoboost engine is going to cost about 32k. the savings in gas assuming 2.80 per gallon and 28.5 mpg for an ecoboost vs. 37 mpg for a hybrid is $4914 vs $3785.6 in gas over a 4 year period or $1,129 saved on gas. That will be about 28 years the way I drive before I recoup the extra 7k I pay on a newer truck in savings on gas. So the answer is no I'll be keeping this truck.

Bottom line this truck has been rock solid light and even mid duty within it's limitations thus far.

Another thing to mention is this truck and probably the hybrids also hold their depreciation values well. I recently got a trade in offer for this truck at 48k miles couple of months back for around $20k. This truck should still be worth that if quoted today. That's great if you trade up but not so great if you live in a state where vehicles are considered property and ad valorem taxed. Can be a pro or con depending.

I should also mention value. If I were to trade up for the same build it would cost me me about 31k vs 25.5k which is about what I paid before taxes, title and fees. Now factor in that I also took out a 10 year 150k ford esp warranty for around 4k I am still only up to ~$29.5k. If you are into value for money spent like I am this about as good as it gets for a truck.

Keep it till it dies. Benefits of the basic model.

I am a ride it until the wheels come off type of owner so that is plan or at least until 2031 when the warranty is up. That also assumes something better and/or cheaper doesn't come to market by then.

If anything I'll continue to keep modding the truck in ways that shouldn't affect the warranty. I always wanted the copilot 360 package, this truck didn't come with it. I've done most the mods except for the BLIS features, at this point there should be enough junkers out there I can get modules and mirrors on the cheap to finish it off.

I don't see how any fuel additive can clean the intake valves on a direct-injected engine

Can you share the specific product you used, I'm curious
I did but to repeat the product brand is liqui moly. I should add the product name is dijectron it is specifically a liquid based gasoline direct injection cleaner. In your case unless you have other vehicles that have a gdi engine you shouldn't have this problem on a 2.5l hybrid.
