Two years ago today I purchased a XLT Maverick Hybrid, it's been a real journey since then. Lots of firsts for sure, and some that I hope are lasts. The entire process from ordering to living with this truck as my one and only vehicle has been a mixed bag. I don't have a long distance commute, just a 25-30 minute drive to work, so I'm only at a little over 15k miles.

This picture below is from within the first month, August 2022. At that point the only add-on was a backflip MX4. Added Lasfit LED's winter of 2022, not sure I'd bother doing it again. Winter of 2022 I swapped the OEM tires out for Nokina WR-G4 all weather tire, not a bad tire all around compared to the stock ones. Think I'd get CC2s, they were out of stock everywhere when I got new tires, so that was that. In March of 2023 I added Elevate rails and bed rack. Perfect for work stuff, and fun stuff.

Over all driving impressions and comfort is where I will start. Driving the Maverick is pleasant for the most part, cannot say it's been bad. Not a lot of rattling other than on rough roads, some of the rattle is likely my stuff under the back seat, and some of it is plastic being plastic. Handling is good in all the weather conditions I've driven in, sunny, wet, snow, and icy, so with the right tires for the conditions, no problems at all. I used to play around with drive modes at the beginning, but haven't touched the button since the last time I took a heavy load to the dump in the winter. For a boaty SUV like vehicle the Maverick handles well, I find it better than the 2013 RAV4 Limited I had before, but not as nice as my Camry Hybrid was. Handling does change with loads, as one would expect, so you do have to be more cautious once you have 500+ pounds in the bed. I maxed out payload once, and that was interesting, just a big adjustment for braking. As for the seats, I've only ever sat in the driver seat and it's comfortable enough. I tend to get uncomfortable after sitting for over an hour period, so it's no fault of the truck once I'm past that point. I haven't heard any complaints from passengers about seat comfort.

The utility of the Maverick is by far it's best feature, I've loaded up with soil, mulch, and taken plenty of loads of green waste away. It's been great for transporting my kayak and camping gear. This past spring I add a mini tent trailer to the list and that is working out very well. Being able to do all that and averaging over 5.1L/100km (over 40MPG) overall has been great.

The so far so goods:
Unlike some people I've had no issues with the front windshield, still have the original OEM glass. So far no CV axle issues. I have had deep sleep, but I don't use the Fordpass app, I have remote start on the key fob. Since I had the last set of recall updates done in mid-June 2024 the truck has not gone into deep sleep, at least not yet and the truck gets driven 5 days a week minimum. Interior plastic is holding up fine, a few scratches, but nothing more than in any other vehicle I've owned and in the same places too. No paint issues. I scratched a little bit off of the rail behind the back window with some yard waste, but that was easily fixed. I put some protective automotive tape there, no more chance of paint loss. Most importantly the truck has never lost power, and never not started.

The only real not so goods are due to the laundry list of recalls (9), plus the customer satisfaction programs, and some minor build quality issues. The high mount brake light filled up with condensation starting last winter for example. The infotainment system still freezes up sometimes, just last week the backup camera froze the system, had to do a hard reset because it would not turn off even after turning the truck off. Hopefully no new issues come up, and no more recalls! I've had airbags done, and engine fire recall stuff (3x), along with tail lights and a bunch of other stuff, some of which were never an issue. Airbag recall was done really well, which took two days, never would have known they'd done it after. All the software stuff was done reasonably fast, first bunch took more than a day for some reason. The only real negative experience has been dealership related, but that's not really an issue with the Maverick itself.

To wrap thing up I think the Maverick has been a good vehicle to own, not trouble free by any means, but not a total nightmare either.

loved the review, thanks. I have 28000 miles and love the utility of the 2022 xlt. Occasionally in one spot my truck wants to jump forward, wondering if the dealership completed the transmission update correctly. Also might be electric interference at the one spot. mongo don’t know, just pawn. Been an amazing vehicle so far though.

2 years for us with our 22 Hybrid! We have it in to the dealer today for the sate inspection, 5 recalls and CV axles replacement. Only thing they told me that it needs for the inspection is 4 new tires. 49,918 miles on the truck, everything is original on it.
No issues with starting, no issues with loss of power. I have nothing to complain about with this truck. It hauls our 900 lb. 1963 Little Gem Bugg camper without a problem. We average 43 mpg around town and 33 on the highway doing 75-80 on our trips.
I am looking forward to getting a second one for myself since the wife took over this one. I am waiting for the AWD version of the hybrid!

Same here with the 2022 Hybrid XL. 2 years next week. 10K miles. Only recall I've had done was the airbag. Holding off on the others to make sure the kinks have been worked out. Love everything about this little truck. Only problem was a dead battery- my fault- left the interior lights on. Wife says the seats are more comfortable than her Civic.
My spouse says the same thing about the seats being more comfy than our Hyundai Ioniq and Subaru Outback. I agree.

Owners of a 2022 Maverick Hybrid as well, along with a 2012 F-150 that does the heavy duty work. Almost 20K miles and I would echo most of what you said. Better gas mileage than the Federal standards, the recalls have not been a problem (just had 5 or 6 of them done about a month ago with zero issues), and once I replaced the defective Motorcraft 12v battery (which Ford replaced three times before with similar results) with a Diehard our dead truck issues went away except for one time when it was in a very hot garage for a period of time. As for the driver's seat, I find it more comfortable on longer trips than the F-150.
Thank you for your post.
When you got replacement of the defective battery, was each time it was replaced covered by warranty for labor and battery?

Did you bring in battery yourself or did you drive in to dealer with battery?

I say message low battery today, and after truck sat for hour I checked battery with volt meter and got 12v. my cars usually are at 12.5 after sitting.

Just to share: I have had hardly any issues with me Hybrid 2023. Typical recalls that were handled wonderfully by the dealer coming to my home to do updates. They did replace 12v? starter battery and it was reported widely that Ford had purchased a large lot of faulty batteries and Mavericks were not the only victim of these defects.
You wrote "they did replace 12v?" Does that mean dealer replaced your battery 12v?

Did you bring the battery into dealer without truck?

Was it covered for both labor and battery?

I got a low battery warning today. I want to be prepared if 12v doesn't start. I have 23 hybrid also

Had my 12v replaced by and at the dealer 3 times.
Twice as part of their trying to fix recurrent 12v issues (e.g., intelligent access door-entry not working, interior dome-lighting not working).
Once after a deep-sleep episode.

Yes, they replaced them at no cost each time with Motorcraft batteries. Unfortunately, each had something wrong with them like a bad cell, and the Ford engineers that the dealership were talking to just kept saying to replace the battery. Got tired of jumping the battery all the time with my jump pack so I broke down and bought a Diehard. Problems went away. And I drove the truck in to the dealer each time and left it, since I could always jump the battery and keep the truck going.

Thank you for answering the questions direct.
Hope the diehard dropped into the battery compartment smoothly.

I just had a minor impact with my trailer hitch and all 4 side airbags were discharged. I bought it used, so no idea if my 2022 Lariat hybrid was ever taken in for the recall. Now waiting to see if warranty will cover the VERY EXPENSIVE repairs…

I should have qualified the word "smoothly" when I asked about installing the battery.
The real question should have been: Did you need to remove the trim/platic around
the battery compartment to install the battery?

No. Nothing changed in the least. The new battery went into the old Motorcraft battery position and no interference with the terminals. Just make sure you have the right size battery, and that it is an AGM one as well.
