All the pictures I've seen show a 4 door Maverick. Has anyone heard of there being a 2 door or extra cab Maverick in the works ?

There’s a lot of “wishin and hopin” but it doesn’t look like it for now. Crew cabs are in general more popular and because Ford is seemingly planning the Maverick to be an entry level vehicle, I can’t see them limiting it to two seats.

A little less cab and a little more bed would be nice.

I need the cab room to seat real adults in the rear. I know there is a lot of sentiment for a two door and I understand the desire for a new vehicle. What I’m wondering, for the folks who want a simpler 2 door, why not find a nice older Ranger from a rust free climate, rebuild the engine if necessary, treat it to a new paint job and maybe upholstery. There you go, a simple 2 door truck with a long bed!

I just sold a 2008 4X4 Ranger Sport extra cab with the 4.0 and manual transmission with 39,000 miles on it that I have owned since new.. I replaced it with a 2019 Ranger which is nicer in every way except it is a little too large. The bed is high and deep and unless your a giant reaching in to get anything isn't going to happen. I was hoping for a more refined but smaller truck.

The problem with buying a used Ranger is 20 year old technology and unknown history. I'd like to have modern safety features and can afford to buy new.

My Ranger was 14 years old and I did know the history but like you say the technology, safety features and the times in general have changed. I also could afford to buy a new one and I did. I'm mostly very pleased with it. The engine and transmission combination is impressive. The only fault I can find with it is that the bed is very high and deep. Anyone near normal size can't reach into the bed get things out. So you have to climb up into the bed to retrieve what you need. This is fine if your young but a real pain in the ass if your older. The Maverick is smaller, perhaps too small but maybe not. A regular cab or an extra cab with the additional length going to a more useful bed would be wonderful. I was wishing that in Ford's infinite wisdom would make such a truck.

I think that the Maverick is built on the same platform as the Escape, which has a much shorter wheelbase than the Maverick, so perhaps a 2-door Maverick is not out of the realm of possibilities.

It's certainly the version I would choose ( I've almost pulled the trigger twice now on ordering a Maverick ). A shorter, lighter and longer bed Maverick would suite me to a T. A more modern version of my old S-10 is what I really want.

It’s been discussed heavily in the forum. There just isn’t a big enough market.

20 years ago I would have agreed with you, I didn't want, need, or couldn't see the use of a pickup truck with 4 doors and a short bed.

I've had five 2 door pickups in the past, usually with 8 foot beds because that's what I needed. But at this stage of my life (retired, 67) this little 4 door truck with a short little bed that still is able to carry a 4x8 sheet once in a while is a perfect fit for me.

Only the passage of time tells the truth about need. Most full size pickup beds on the road(privately owned) are empty.Even when leaving the sacred Home Depot parking lot!!!

Id buy a 2 door one over a 4 door any day of the week. When I buy a Mav Im already brainstorming how i can rip out all the rear seat crap and build a storage platform.

I think crew cab trucks are dumb to begin with (sacrificing bed space for rear seat space is ridiculously backwards to me). Im ripping out the rear seats right away just because they wont ever be used. Its a truck, i dont plan on moving people in it.

Highly doubt it'll happen. It won't sell.
