I know there is a thread on here where we talked about this, but I cannot find it. Trust me, I tried.
I have my 12 volt setup in the bed. Light strips, 12 volt outlet, USB Q.3, and a 12 volt battery to run it all.
I installed the curt trailer brake charger https://a.co/d/03Hvwi85 that was reccomended. Everything seemed to be working ok, but then my usb port stopped working. Thought maybe the usb was having an issue because when I plugged a 12v to usb plug in, it was working. It only worked for a while and pretty soon my lights were working intermittently. I was stumped. I started reading whatever I could, and even read some reviews about the CURT charger. One review said he was only getting 10 volts output from the charger. I figured what the heck, and grabbed the multimeter.
unplugged the battery, dead.
plugged in the battery and started the truck. Only reading 4.6 volts at the battery. Thought that maybe the battery was just drawing too much because it was dead. Unplugged the battery and checked output. Went up to 10 volts. Checked input voltage and it was over 12.
here is where I need help - is the charger supposed to act this way? Or is the charger not working properly? Has anyone else had issues like this, Using the trailer brake battery charger? should I order another and swap it out, or go with something else?
I know I have a problem somewhere because the battery is dead. It seems to me that the curt charger is to blame. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
