I'd wager its more likely a 7.7% improvement to drag and not 7.7% direct mpg improvement.

We've done the same with a RAV4 and Prius - many new vehicles have this issue.

I'd like a plug-in Mav that does 20-40 miles of fully electric, but ONLY if the increase in MSRP is the same as the EV tax credit. I'm too cheap to overpay for PHEV or EV when a cheaper, efficient hybrid makes more sense. I did buy a Rav4 Prime before prices got crazy - drove it for 9 months...
