I would suggest using Tesa (cloth) tape to neatly wrap it. Standard plastic electric tape will eventually melt and leave a gooey black mess. Mine is the same way. I also added an adhesive black pad to the buckle face of the driver's side to prevent scrathing the center console.

It is a real PITA but I suggest removing the low quality adhesive that comes on any Mabett/Maxzina/etc. stick on trim pieces and replacing it with quality 3M VHB tape.
