I would not pay more than MSRP for a buggy first year model hybrid. In fact I am starting to question even paying msrp - especially towards the end of the model year right before a new year model comes out, and seeing all these pics and stories of dead hybrids.

This does not sound like an old battery or bad battery problem to me. This is a short to ground condition or some other serious parasitic load.
