Alpha, an EV startup, just announced that they're building a truly small pickup called the Alpha Wolf. It reminds me of an old Toyota SR5, and frankly it looks so damn good that I'll probably have to wait for more details on the Wolf before I'd pull the trigger on a Maverick.
Obviously a full...
I'm looking for something that will let me consolidate two vehicles into single vehicle. I mostly use my Ford Focus for my long commute, and I mostly use my Nissan Frontier for beekeeping and for the 4WD in the winter. So I'm hoping the Maverick can deliver fuel mileage similar to my Focus, and...
I'm not sure how tax credits work for hybrids, but according to efile.com, the 2020 Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid qualified for a $6,834 tax credit. If the Maverick uses a similar powertrain, I'm assuming the credit would be similar. (If efile.com knows what it's talking about, and if those federal...
Oh man, if they made an EV version of the Maverick with 250+ miles of range per charge, that would be a hands-down front-runner for me. Even if it came in at a $30K price point, you're still looking at low $20Ks with the tax incentives.
My dream truck is a 1970-ish F-100 with three-on-the-tree. By the late '60s, the F-100s were getting pretty boxy. Just a preference I guess, but that's when they start looking good to me.
My grandpa drove a 1948 Ford truck until the day he died. It's one of the first vehicles I ever drove. Now...
Yeah, the industry as a whole is disingenuous for making the destination fees an add-on--it's not just Ford. Imagine if we went to Target and they charged an additional destination fee for every product during checkout. It wouldn't be tolerated. Somehow car companies/dealerships get away with it.
For those of us of a certain age, that boxy front end is what a truck is supposed to look like. I wouldn't entertain a truck with a Focus-like front, but that's just me. I'm guessing it has something to do with our formidable years, but a 1980 Ford F-150 looks like a truck, compared to a 2000...
I can see why small trucks have gone the way of the dodo. We call for companies to build small trucks, and then expect a big double-cab and a big bed. By the way, I'm not criticizing those demands, but it does show why small trucks were ultimately abandoned in the US.
I personally feel that...
I had my Focus in for service at a Ford dealer recently. The salesmen there had never even heard of the Maverick when I mentioned it. I suppose it depends on the dealership, but my experience is that car salesmen know almost nothing about their products, and instead all their training is about...
I'll give the Hyundai Santa Cruz a look, though I'm not a fan of the Ridgeline-esque body style. If neither the Santa Cruz nor the Maverick seem worth the money, I'll stick with my current Nissan Frontier until something better comes along.
That's my bad. I googled "Ford Ranger Bed Width" and the results showed 44". So I simply rounded down to 40" for the Maverick. But as MarcusBrody points out, it's 44" between wheel wells. And digging a little shows the Ranger bed is 61" wide when the wheel wells aren't considered.
If it lets...
And $1995 in 1970 dollars equates to $13,450 in 2021 dollars, so there's more to it than just inflation. I watched a video recently about why cars have gotten so expensive. We always think it's because of safety regulations, but according to that video it's mostly because people demand so many...
Quickly plugging in your estimate of a 4 1/2 ft bed (54 inches), and using the same 50" width and 16" height I used before, we'd get a 73" (6' 1") diagonal length. Or 86" (7' 1") diagonal length with the tailgate down and a bed extender.
EDITED to change width from 40" to 50".
Just trying to do the math...let's say it has a 48" bed length and 50" bed width. That gives it 69" from the front corner to the rear corner diagonally (5' 9" long). Just guessing, but if the tailgate is 16" high, that would change the bed length to 64" with an extender, making the diagonal...
5ft bed. 6ft would be better, but I could live with 5ft.
AWD/4WD.
30+ MPG.
It should be sized similar to small '80s trucks. That means don't force me to get a crew cab with a usable bed.
Manual transmission is strongly preferred. I know this ain't happening, but Ford would have to make this...
