  1. 12 Volt Battery Question

You are correct, the 12V battery powers the electrics including the ECU and fuel pump, not sure what the minimum voltage is for that to work but the 12V battery can be charged, jumped or replaced. However the engine is actually cranked by the HV battery via a MGU in the transmission. If that...
  2. Why so much negativity

There is an old marketing adage that a customer with a negative exprience will tell 10 people but those with a positive experience will tell 2 people. Of course nowadays with social media they can tell thousands of people. Anyway:
  3. The ‘greenest’ car in America (Spoiler Alert - It's not an EV)

An interesting article comparing the overall impact of ICE, Hybrid, plug in hybrid and EVs on the earths resources (greenest). There is an EV that comes out near the bottom of the list, you probably have a good idea what it is but you will have to read through the article to find it...
  4. Truck wouldn't start after torrential rain

Sounds like a loose battery connection some where, could be nothing to do with the water. Manufacturers splash test vehicles, good lesson not to remove any of the undershields.
  5. Can Anyone Explain How the Hybrid CVT Works

Hmm:unsure: I guess if the starter/generator fails the transmission fails, a side effect is that the engine won't crank. Another scenario coud be that the starter works but the batterys don't charge caused by a fault in the inverter, equivalent to a diode failure in an alternator.
  6. Outdoor life has made my heart bleed

I sometimes think new cars should come 'pre dinged' so we don't have to worry about the first ding. A little story: Before I retired I ran the Land Rover West Coast training center and we would get a new fleet at the beginning of each MY. When our Range Rover hadn't arrived I called the port to...
  7. How are recalls communicated?

My question is how does FMC know who ownes the vehicle. I juist got the BECM recall notice for the Maverick I sold in November 2023.
  8. Heater Settings affecting MPG

There is an auxillary electric heater in the HVAC box - item 15 in the parts illustration:ustration.
  9. 2025 Maverick refresh and other rumors (from display manager at auto show)

I'm guessing the challenge to building an AWD hybrid is finding room for the driveshaft with all the hybrid 'stuff' under there. The neat solution would be to drive the rear wheels electrically, but that would need a lot of new hardware and software.
  10. PERFECT rear seat cover found! No more dragging rifle cases right over my nice "leather" seats!

I have a 4knines non hammock rear seat cover for sale, $20 if someone wants to pick it up from Fort Mohave NW AZ. It was a good fit in my Maverick with the one piece seat, you can still access the underseat and seat back storage with it in place. It doesn't work in my Mazda with the split seats...
  11. Car wash L button

I used the 'L' button all the time on my Maverick for slowing, actually saw 130 MPG in stop and go traffic! Just be aware that the brake lights are not illuminated when using regen braking. I think it's basically the same as the 'B' mode on a Prius.
  12. Will our Mavericks become like 64 1/2 Mustang?

The original Mini Pickup - they only made about 18,000 of them. Ones that haven't rusted away or got beat to death are fetching up to $48K:D.
  13. Mandated Driving Impairment Detection

Agreed- lot of other things beside alcohol can impair drivers.
  14. Mandated Driving Impairment Detection

I guess this would be an extension of the 'Drowsy Driver Alert' system we have on the Maverick: https://www.sae.org/news/2024/01/nhtsa-driver-impairment-regulation.
  15. Did Ford miss an opportunity by not making a Bronco pickup?

How much of a Bronco Sport is interchangable with the Maverick? I visualize getting one of each and swapping parts until you have a Bronco pickup and a non-pickup Maverick 🥺 .
  16. Would you buy hybrid again yes or no

Maybe…but not a Maverick, don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the 6 months and 3000 miles I drove it – my first hybrid. Loved the smooth integration of electric and ICE, liked being able to push the ‘Ready’ button and glide away silently, when I switch to a ‘regular’ car I notice the racket of the ICE...
  17. Someone has been joyriding my Maverick in Mexico

A bored driver driving the same type of vehicle around a the same prescibed test route, through the same modes - day after day - not 'joyriding'🥺. Been there! This was the sticker on my Mav when it was delivered.
  18. Ford Faces Class Action Lawsuit - Hybrid Engine Fires

Thinking about the 2.5L Hybrid ‘stalling’ (only a vehicle manufacturer would call the engine exploding and possibly catching fire a ‘stalling’ problem). The engine has been around for a while and has a good reputation for reliability. Ford has developed an Atkinson cycle variant of the Mazda...
  19. Bye Bye Maverick, Farewell MTC

Yea, I looked at that - it's a world wide forum but not nearly a active and interesting as this one. I guess the CX-3 is a pretty boring car.
  20. Bye Bye Maverick, Farewell MTC

Yea, it fits in my garage but I can't get around it and I don't need nearly 2 tons of vehicle to drag my scrawny ass around. I guess I'm a car guy, I can always borrow a truck if I need one.
