I belive AWD is engaged all the time but the torque split varies according to conditions.
I remember back in the '70s we were looking at building AWD Capris. When the question about MPG came up the engineers explanation was "With two wheel drive you are draging along 2 dead wheels, if you drive...
Interesting comparison, one problem with cheap vehicles is that they don't get maintained and are driven into the ground. I remember the Yugo, basicaly a Fiat built in Yugoslavia (a country that does not exist anymore!).
That's about what I was getting. On the highway the hybrid bit isn't really doing anything but the ICE can opperate in the more efficient Atkinson cycle so a bit better than a conventional engine.
About right. A loooong time ago we were going to go into limited production of the Ford Capri with AWD, the inevitable question was 'what about the fuel milage?'
The explanation given was: If you have a 2-wheel drive car you are just dragging 2 'dead' wheels along, if you drive these wheels you...
My main concern with the hybrid was the complex tripple cooling systems. Summer temps here in the Mohave Valley range from 110° to 122° (nice cool 111° today after a week of 115°+).
I know the manufactures test for this but it still concerns me 🥺 .
I got used to the Maverick shifter but I like the conventional shifter in my Mazda, much more convenient. I use the 'Sport Shift' for slowing all the time - I always put automatics in neutral when stopped, much easier to just bump the lever on the Mazda than fiddle with the rotary on the Mav...
Why do you need to replace the brake lines? The dealer can probably find the part #s but have to order them and it may take a while and they may come a straight lengths and have to be bent to fit.
An alterenative might be to buy a roll of Cupronickel brake line and fittings, a decent flare tool...
If the hybrid battery is just dead and not damaged there are aftermarket chargers for the HV battery but they are not cheap - $300 to $500 and it doesn't look like a simple hookup.
It's been mentioned on the forum that Ford dealers have the equipment to charge the HV battery, might be worth...
RTFM!
From the owners manual:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (SAE terminology for 'Check Engine Light')
If it illuminates when the engine is running, the on-board diagnostics system is detecting
a malfunction of the vehicle emission control system.
If it flashes, engine misfire could be
occurring...
Similar story here, my wife was in rehab for a fractured hip - tested positive for Covid and they moved her to the 'Covid Wing', I tested positive a day later. My wife had no symptoms and I had a bit of a dry cough. Glad we both had our Moderna shots and boosters. A friend got the Johnson &...
You are correct, a probe up the tailpipe of a warmed up engine is pretty much a waste of time. The federal emission test consists of having the car sit for 12 hours at a set temperatue, then cold started and driven through a series of modes, stop start, accel-decel, steady state etc. Then...
Similar story here, went from a Mazda CX-3 to the Maverick. Good vehicle, interesting to drive a hybrid for a while. Had to keep it 6 months (A-plan purchase) but it was good to get back in a Mazda again (the first one was totaled by a wrong way driver).
I guess I’m a car guy too.
Nice to open...
Thought I would just share the mileages I got during the 6 months and 3000 odd miles I had my 2023 Lariat:
In temperatures under 95° I got 43 to 45 MPG with the AC blowing cold almost immediately, when temps got into the 110-120° range milage dropped to 33 MPG and it took a couple of miles...
