Ok that's great for you and yours, but not everyone has the means, space, or desire to own and store multiple vehicles and trailers for multiple use cases.
It's not asking too much of Ford to have measured/calculated properly and manufactured a cable to the proper spec. a^2 + b^2 = c^2
The tailgate closes and aligns just fine. And you can't adjust the cable mount points - they're welded on. The problem is the length of the cable. It's like an inch too long.
I was thinking more along the lines of a long piece of furniture. More fragile than a sheet of plywood.
Look, I love my maverick and can forgive/understand the compromises that go into making a truck that starts at $20k. But this isn't that. This is clearly just someone fucking up a measurement.
You've probably never considered or noticed it with all your prior trucks because those tailgates all sat coplanar with the bed...
It does reduce functionality - a long flat load is either unsupported by the tailgate, or it's flexing downward to rest on the tailgate, either of which may not be...
It's an issue (and annoys me on my 22) but definitely not a reason to walk away from the truck. That's pretty dramatic. We're talking about a couple $20 cables. Ford or the aftermarket will eventually produce ones that are the correct length
So I picked these up today. Interestingly the book at my Costco didn't have the Maverick listed in it. But I picked up a 22 and 21. The current OEM on the driver's side is definitely longer than 22. Closer to 23. But the Michelin 22 works fine (you just lose a bit of coverage at the top - 24 may...
Sorry to be that guy, but I'm just finding it a little hard to believe you're beating the rated highway fuel economy by 15 mpg. Sure you're doing the calculations right?
It's pretty frustrating, especially because I really like the cover otherwise. It looks good and seems well made. But you can see what I've been dealing with in the photos below. Water seems to leak in through the panels and drip out of the locks (they screw into the panels).
It may not look...
I'm on my third MX4 (the first two were replaced under warranty - I do give their warranty department/customer service credit) and all three have leaked pretty badly. Water somehow gets through/into the cover's panels and drips all over the bed. It's super frustrating for a cover that costs so...
I haven't read all 7 pages, but the original post doesn't sound like what I'm experiencing. Rough/loud idle that goes away once the truck is put in gear. Mine doesn't make any weird noise, and only seems to happen when I AM in gear (stopped at a light in drive)
Yup pulsing is a good way to describe it. I have 9k miles, and only started noticing it when winter hit and it's around freezing or colder.
I plan on taking it into the dealer one of these days to take a look at it, but I may have missed my chance for them to replicate it with spring weather...
