That was my impression as well. And for a long time too. I had cars back in the eighties that released pressure when you removed the fuel cap. Maybe that's changed in recent years?

First, yes I know this was a joke. But recently my wife had one of those placards after knee surgery, and when she was my passenger and I couldn't get a spot with the cross hatched area on the passenger side, I would park as this person did to give her room to maneuver in case somebody crowded...
