Love what you did it looks very practical and your dog is adorable. Glad to hear your son was mostly OK. Stuff like that scares the crap out of me.
My 4k/FX4 didn't get great mileage either. It did MUCH better on the highway (provided a light foot on the pedal) than in the slower...
Nothing dissolves gum, at least nothing that won't also dissolve the paint and as we know mav paint aint exactly thick. IIRC I soaked the scrubbie in vegetable oil to de-stickify the gum. It sort of worked. I just about crapped when I saw how bad the paint got scratched. Still amazes me...
Depending on how deep the scratches are, compound lightly with an orbital buffer then polish and wax. All it takes is a little elbow grease.
About a month after I got my mav, I accidentally dropped some gum and it got stuck on the outside of the driver's door. Didn't notice and the hot...
Heh. My forester has all the bells and whistles too. Heated seats, harmon kardon audio, leather trimmed upholstery, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping, the works. Pretty sure it was cheaper than what you would have to spend to get a fully tricked out lariat...
I normally do almost exclusively short-hop stop and go commuting - literally the worst for MPG. The hybrid would be ideal were mileage my priority. I posted another thread about being pleasantly surprised to get mid 30's on a long drive that was almost exclusively on flat terrain. Another...
The visibility thing is one of the things my wife really likes about it. Restricted visibility is kind of a pet peeve of hers. My old mazda had huge blind spots, the forester is great that way. And I dig the utilitarian vibe, just like I do with the maverick.
A powerhouse it ain't.
Loved the power the mav had at highway speeds, didn't like the turbo lag coming off a stop. I specifically wanted a non turbo engine for that reason. Not really a fan of turbos. Less complexity is better sometimes in my book.
The wilderness gets worse mpg due to the increased diff ratio, but it's still much better than the mav. I really expected the mav to average in the upper 20's and at times I was getting high teens for mpg. Granted I do almost nothing but short hop stop and go driving but for a vehicle that...
The wilderness has some style, the other models, meh. Overall it's not an inspiring vehicle in terms of power compared to the mav but for me the overall balance weighed toward the subaru.
It's not bad. There are bottle slots in the doors. The CRV is nice can't go wrong with that.
I'd strongly recommend test driving both or even to rent one for a week just to see how you like living with it and to find any annoyances.
Since my wife has a forester I was able to drive it...
The crosstrek is a nice, capable little vehicle. I need something bigger to move my kids around at school. but it would suit a single person well. The thing about them is the lower driving posture and this is important.
In the forester you are sitting higher and more upright like in a...
I got a 24 while they are still available because the 25 with the giant tv screen in the middle of the console is an abortion of which we will not speak. All the manufacturers are going in that direction and it sucks hard.
No idea where you get a comparison of the interior of the forester to...
Yeah keeping an eye on that. The CVT is the one thing I am not crazy about. I will also miss the extra 70 hp or so when passing on the highway. We do "severe service" fluid change intervals in our house.
Worst comes to worst I'll trade the subaru in too. I had been looking at gen 5 4...
Traded in the mav today for a 24 forester wilderness. I realized that I only used it for actual truck stuff like 3 times in the last 2 years since I got it and that an SUV was more in line with what I really need. The mav was basically a car with a huge trunk and with kids in college that...
Power and handling. I did not expect it to handle as well as it does. I came out of a mazda 3 which was a very nice handling car and the mav compares well to that. I also love the highway speed passing ability. Plenty of power on tap to pass.
I also like the layout of the controls and...
You can test; it's interesting and you might learn stuff which is always good. You could also just do 5k changes as standard and go full synthetic and not worry too much about it.
Turbo engines blow fuel into the oil due to higher pressures. You need to drive like 30 minutes for it to get...
