You ever heard of the Jeep XJ, ZJ, WJ…subarus….there are plenty of unibody vehicles that can do everything but rock crawl. I don’t think the unibody will be cracking or taking serious injury from hill climbs, river bed runs, and some ruts.
If you check out the angles, it’s really not that bad. Plus, 2WD vehicles can get surprisingly far with air compressors/maxtrax/and a come along.
what do you mean by cross up the axles?
I’m hoping the eCVT with planetary gears brings a whole new level of reliability to the platform. I couldn’t imagine there to be much failures with a simple system, but I have no previous data to support that.
I’m not trying to rock crawl or mud, I use my Jeep pretty often in the backwoods and I know that 2WD with an air compressor can do a hell of a lot. So my main thing is service roads, trails with ruts, some mud…basically areas to get to camp. Nothing insane. I figured that the electrical outlet...
This is going to sound crazy to the hardcore 4x4 lovers, but I think that the torque of the hybrids would be great for overlanding. I’m wondering what 30” tires would do to the transmission, if it would be too much. But besides that…more mpg means longer stretches inbetween gas ups. Any thoughts...
How does doing sales out of state work? I’m moving to Portland in 3 months and am holding off on reservations. I won’t be a resident in Oregon either for at least 9 months. Any insight would be wonderful
Any sort of weight change will effect the mpg, the more your engine has to exert to move the wheels, the more gas/electricity it uses. So if you put on bigger heavier rims on the hybrid, I’m sure you’d lose some mpg.
I’m almost positive Ford will be making a tiny margin on these, and made the gas engine more expensive to get more hybrids on the road. I think this is one of their ways to push people into hybrid systems. Imagine this, they can’t focus more energy into creating better and more powerful hybrids...
Akron, OH...going with that hybrid FWD. I'm ricky bobby in the snow with RWD and AT tires, so no need for AWD for me for now. But once they come out with the hybrid AWD...im trading in asap!
Ill need to replace my car by next year unfortunately, so I’ll probably end up going for the 2WD then trading it in once the AWD comes out. I just hope I don’t lose out too much!
I am curious on what you guys will think about this.
If you were to throw some 30s on the 2WD hybrid powertrain and do some very minimal off roading, is that going to put too much stress on the engine? Does anyone have experience with intercoolers for hybrids or just experience with this at...
