The entire structure is made using scrap angle and plate I had laying around. Measure twice, cut once, failed me because I attached the right front support rail 1/2 inch lower than the left, but other than that it came out ok. To get a four foot wide deck I ordered a set of two inch wheel...
Still wanting a lighter trailer I decided to buy some C channel, 1 X 2 for the box, and 2 X 3 for the tow bar. Replaced the springs and shackles, but still used the old axle. Picture 03 shows the base when it was done. I like building things, so it was more natural to make it my way. After wire...
I made the trailer to haul heavy loads so it is built solid. Sadly it was borrowed and the person was told to set the brake actuator to a low value and increase until the brakes take effect and adjust slowly.
What they decided I meant was to set the actuator to full power floor their truck and...
Well that didn't go as planned.
I got springs to add some life to the antique springs, and found the right spring main leaf is bent, so I got a hanger kit so I can just use the new springs. I buy local as much as possible. Got the axle off, for 60 plus year old bolts they came off easily. Put...
I looked at those and they are a nice kit. Pretty much what I got from Ace many years ago. If I didn't already have the antique I might have gone that route.
That's pretty much what I'm going to build. My only regret is my parents did not keep the original wheels. I remember it had antique 16" rims on it. When those were replaced is a lost memory. It will be a fun project.
Sneaking online at work during my break...
The only aluminum trailer, the right size, I could find used is listed at $3,000. I can get a new one for that! Everything else is the wrong size, too small or too large, and there are only a few for sale here in AZ.
I don't have the funds to get a new trailer, aluminum trailers are expensive. Even used ones, the size I need, are out of my price range. At least the ones I've priced lately. This is a bird in the hand project, bringing the old thing back to life.
I've been welding for a long time, I know what...
I built one similar many moons ago. It was all steel, $150.00 complete! Ace Hardware I think. It was light and handy, but I ended up upgrading to move 4 X 8 plywood after trading for an old beater. Sold those two and made a heavy duty one for me and another for my parents. I also built the...
Having built a number of utility trailers over the years, and with materials available, free time, and not much extra cash, I decided to rebuild an old trailer to use with the Maverick. The base I am starting with is a trailer my Father had built around 1952. At the time my parents were living...
I agree with your last sentence. I wanted a less costly small truck and I really did not care what the drive train was. Being able to get in and out of parking lots compared to a larger truck is wonderful. I owned several Rangers, '83 and a '92, and missed the small sized utility.
I also have...
There was a news item last week where a cat thief died when the vehicle he was stealing from fell off the blocks he put it on. Not something I would want to discover.
I crawled under my Maverick and I don't think it would be too easy, but the lazy can be very creative, and put in an enormous...
When much younger, my parents drove a 1960 Plymouth wagon, the big monster with those fins, up to a lake where the only other people there had 4X4 trucks and jeeps. You should have seen the looks we got.
However, over the years I have seen a number of lowered cars stuck on speed bumps and oddly...

A lot of nice looking trucks here. I had a person ask about the Maverick for the first time on Friday while out shopping. Just ordered a bed cover and still looking for more trinkets.
