Ok small victory! The rear camera now works. That shield wire did it. Now its just down to the ACM. My suspicion currently is that the ACM we bought is not compatible with the APIM since not a single change to the APIM as built has resulted in any real change to functionality. I want to see if...
Ok think I might have solved the camera issue. Have to test tomorrow to be sure. While the other 3 shields are acting exactly as I thought (metal sheathing encasing wires with only the APIM pin providing a ground) the camera shield looks like it is pulling double duty. Its acting as the shield...
Yep. I’m going to update the harness to add back the shields I didn’t pay attention to the first time around just to eliminate any chances it’s the wiring causing these issues.
Yep... And that was farther away from working then the Bronco ABD...
Not even the rear camera works... Goes to a blue screen when put into reverse. I verified that the wiring is correct as the APIM through a DTC "rear vision system general electrical fault" and still nothing. Switching from...
Ok so time for an update. 2021 base Bronco As Built seems to work great for the 2020 escape ACM @propp2531 and I bought. No DTCs and the ACM seems to communicate with the rest of the vehicle. Going through the cluster, you can switch between AM, FM, and SiriusXM. Steering wheel volume controls...
So apparently 2022 transit connect vans have an option for sync 4. I need to find a vin of one with that option so I can pull the As Built data. I think that would be a great starting point for the APIM configuration.
So far I believe I have a configuration that makes the ACM happy. That came from a 21 Bronco. Unfortunately haven’t had much luck making the APIM happy yet.
So quick update.....
I have tried every version of Forscan publicly available (including the beta) in an attempt to connect to the APIM to program. Unfortunately none worked. My guess is, sync 4 only uses pins 19-20 for CAN BUS where as Sync 3 uses 19-20, 53-54, and another set for HS4 CAN...
Only Lariat trims with the premium sound package get Sync 3. Very little difference between the 8” sync 3 and 4. Largest plus to sync 4 is wireless carplay.
For me, the OEM system has been nothing but unreliable….. Constant disconnects from Bluetooth, overall slow performance, and hit or miss activation of CarPlay.
Sync 3 and Sync 4 from the other vehicles I have access to have none of these issues. Sync 3 is the easy swap but Sync 4 has the...
So Sync 3 should have no issues. Sync 4 unfortunately uses a new Ethernet network to communicate with the TCU and as far as I know relies on the TCU for Wi-Fi connection.
Moral of the story, OTA updates for the APIM likely won’t be possible along with the loss of hotspot. FordPass will still...
Sync 4 is the newest Ford infotainment system that supersedes Sync 3. Largest differences between the 8” systems are UI and wireless CarPlay/android auto. Sync 4 has multiple screen sizes though unlike most of the Sync 3 systems.
They do make a Nav 8” sync 4 APIM. That said, Sync 4 Nav would be a no go since it is subscription based and would require a new TCU and gateway module with the Ethernet network to function.
Sync 3 Nav should function without issue.
It should be tied directly to the APIM so assuming we can get the programming correct and everything functional, when the phone is paired over BT, wireless carplay should be enabled.
Theoretically it should but I need to get access to the APIM with Forscan to work on some of the other programming issues first. Right now the APIM has greyed out anything related to bluetooth.
