All in the bed composite construction Maverick truck bed camper

I am building a truck camper for the Maverick. This is all composite (Filon fibreglass styrofoam sandwich)construction that with the slide out inside

will fit completely in the bed.Tailgate closed, no overhangs and structures stuck way up in the air. I have all the basic structure complete. I have made a lot of videos about how to do this here is one: (5) Maverick truck bed camper-Building the slide out box - YouTube

Cool construction material. Im doing something similar. A bit small for my taste. To each is own. They way you have the door will you be able to get out if someone walks by and closes the tailgate and traps you?

One of the windows is an escape window. Additionally you cant close the tailgate with the slide out. Thanks for the reply.

LOL nope I am a giant at 5'8". But the point of this build is it is basicaly a teardrop trailer in the back of a pickup truck.And in the main part of the cabin the height is 47" and that is more than a typical teardrop because the ceiling is mostly flat where a teardrop is a continuous curve

I have built 4 RV's, one full size and full featured and 3 composite construction teardrops. My youngest son has a 2022 AWD Maverick came up with the concept of a truck bed camper that you can drive with the tailgate closed. With my last teardrop I designed it so that I could put my motorcycle in the Maverick pickup bed and still hook the trailer to the truck without damaging the trailer. It worked so well I took it out to BC and back, a 7000KM round trip.

Not besmirching your efforts, I started a teardrop design but after seeing a dozen tears camping in the rain in South Dakota, I tried a scamp sized home built, then a high-low that worked great for four years then it broke in the up position where it's at permanently, I store all my camping equipment in the bed.

What will happen with the truck camper is I will build a trailer to tow behind it that will hold my motorcycle and whatever camping gear I want to take. But for a weekend trip the gear will be under the bed in the truck camper. My wife and I do long haul camping in this rig- 2017 Ford Transit diesel regular WB and standard roof. Inside we have 2 bycycles, 2 inflatable kayaks and shelving and bins for all the stuff we do not keep in the trailer. And a Whynter 2 compartment fridg/freezer. We built this RV during Covid because I was bored and not happy with all of our previous trailers.It has 30,000 KM of trouble free KM on it. And weighing only 2350lbs it gets great mileage.

Here is my latest video. I have finished cleaning off the excess glue from the seams inside the camper and caulked all the seams. I decided to go with custom made cushions instead of the false floor idea and I demonstrate the amount of headroom.

I have now completed the seals for the slideout,got the bed cushions made by Foamite, and installed a small fixed glass front window. Next step is to put it back on the truck to check for leaks and install some wiring.

Thank you. The shop is a Shelter logic 22' by 32 ' peak style. I added wooden framed ends and the roll up door. It has a heavy duty PVC cover and has held up very well for 10 years now.

I kind of got side tracked today. I was going to lay out the electrical but while I was vacuuming up the mess from installing the front window I started dreaming up different ways to put the foam in the camper with the slideout in the travel position. So after about 5 trys I came up with this. My main goal was not to block the front window and get the maximum space for gear. Lots of combos worked and gave a good sized storage area but blocked the window. Then it dawned on me that the foam for the slide could support itself up near the ceiling and that worked great. The space for stowing gear is 24" wide, 47" deep and 34" high.That will hold all kinds of gear without having to stow stuff in the back seat. This is one thing that will make this camper more practical. As a bonus, the foam is in the right place to make the bed. Pull out the slide and just drop the foam into place.
