I've had roof racks and hitch racks on other vehicles and it's wonderful to not have the hitch rack in the way backing up, loading cargo, parking or even just walking around the vehicle.

leaving a tailgate pad on full time is so much easier to live with.
I'd always regret leaving my hitch mount on the second I started backing up and it was blocking the view of my camera. That said, @tom_tucker has a better setup than I had.

it probably depends on how long your bike is. our bikes are 27.5 but my son's Guerilla Gravity is a ridiculously long, slack beast and it's less than 6" from the front wall of the bed, which my soft tri-fold takes double that space. however, if your soft rollup is under 8" thick it might work.

I think you can probably prototype this yourself with a moving blanket and test fit your bike on the tailgate with your tonneau rolled up.
Hi all - late to the party. I recently received my mav and am running a raceface tailgate pad for the MTB. I am curious about a tonneau and wondering if you can latch the Tonneau with the tailgate pad attached? Probably depends on make/model, but general guidance would be helpful.

no worries. I see the post of mine you quoted, but my suggestion/answer to your question is actually in a different reply of mine in this thread.

that Fox Mission / RaceFace T3 pad is made to work with many (most?) tonneau covers. the top portion folds down into the bed (against the tailgate of course) leaving it much thinner on top of the tailgate and in theory able to accept most tonneau covers.

it's fairly expensive, but many of them are, and otherwise I see no drawbacks.

yeah, they had a good run. no one wanted their patents because the frames are heavy and everyone would rather sell complete bikes than seatstay kits.

people panic selling their GxG at terrible prices just blows me away. you can get parts from Canfield and enduro makes a full bearing set.

my son will be riding his until he is done with college and can afford to get something himself. 👍

Trailer hitch setups can get in the way of tailgate operation and they don't really work if you also want to haul things.
You realized you contradicted yourself. A hitch rack is actually the best way to carry bikes and haul stuff. You aren't hauling much with the bikes in the bed with a tailgate pad.

No issues.
that's what I expected, since it's a feature of that pad to fold down to allow tonneau covers to close all the way.
