After a 3 month wait, my Alto Blue Maverick finally arrived at the dealership! When I approved the order sheet, I put “x-plan pricing” beside my signature, and also mentioned it to the sales person I was working with. Today during the paperwork, I was told that they would NOT allow x-plan pricing, (even though Ford says that it is available), and have not done one in years. Sooo, there was a $795 dealer fee, exorbitant admin fee and large doc fee added to the MSRP. Under x-plan, the dealer fee is disallowed, and other fees are limited. They would not budge, nor would they discount the base price by the corresponding dealer fee to enable a win win.

I walked out. I later got a call from the GM, but only reasons why they couldn’t do any better. Needless to say, I’m quite disappointed.

It's a little vague by your description above, but did they verbally agree to x-plan when you mentioned it?

Big difference between you just "mentioning it", and them agreeing to it.

These days, every little detail matters....

Who is the dealer? Did they promise MSRP with no markups? Did they sign anything? Did you sign the DORA at order time? Did you talk about X Plan at the time of order? Need more information before we can help.

From your description, it sounds like you signed "the order sheet," but does that mean you did not get a purchase order and sign it? I believe the purchase order is the document that obligates you and the dealer to the terms and price on the purchase order.

That’s a bummer. You should try calling Ford to complain. I think I’ve read some other posts here where that was successful. Dealer has your truck held hostage and knows they can sell it for a premium if you walk.

This is a cautionary tale as to why buyers need to have a signed "Buyers Order".

To protect yourself you need a signed "Buyer's Order" from the dealership that has all prices listed MSRP, any fees TT&L, etc with an OTD final price that is signed by you and the General/Sales Manager. By signing it you and the dealership are committed to the agreed upon price. That is a binding agreement that both you and the dealership have so when your Maverick gets delivered you won't get stuck with additional costs at delivery time.

Verbal or even a signed Dora does not hold water.

Tim's video here states getting a "Signed Buyers Order" to protect yourself from bad dealers who are marking up custom orders when they arrive:

Dealerships don’t have to accept any plan pricing. Crappy I know, but it is what it is.

This my first post. I'm getting ready to place an order in a week or two. I would like to here how the ordering/purchase has gone for others. I had a dealer tell me verbally that if you place an order there are no other fees or make ups just the MSRP plus any local sales taxes and licensing. He pointed it out as a great selling feature. This is one of the main reasons I HATE car dealers and their salesman, they just say what ever to get the sale. I applaud you for walking away and standing your ground. So what do I need to do so this doesn't happen to me.

If you are ordering a Hybrid, you better order it now, because in a week or two they won't be selling the Hybrid version as they are planning to close those out for the 2022 year model.

Lots of great suggestions here, none of which involve bands of people with pitchforks and fire. It might be time for bands of people with pitchforks and fire- just sayin. God I hate car dealerships…

Lot's of things to consider here, including your relationship with the dealer in question.

If you don't really have any long term dealer relationship, a detailed & signed buyers order is really the best way to go, as others have pointed out. Anything else is subject to change.

Personally, I have a long term relationship with several dealers from years of business, and have done very well with just handshake deals, including my current Maverick order on x-plan. I would not normally recommend this to most folks however, as this generally takes many years to establish.

I’m more upset that you only had to wait 3 months……..

Why are people so worried about X-plan pricing? From my understanding it saves you a few hundred dollars at most.
