I brought my new maverick from Granger Ford, Iowa
When I cleaned the dead bugs on the front and windshield, I found there were missing parts on the shutter blind.

Anyone know why Ford removed those shutter blinds?

I think this change was for the hybrid only. They wanted more air flow to the engine area.

Yes, my maverick is hybrid.
I thought this blind's purpose is blocking bug crashing.

someone said this one is Active grill shutter, could you tell me what exactly this thing does?

It closes when the engine is cold to allow it to warm up faster. Been on the Escapes for years.

so that means it won't help to block bugs crashing ..
That might be a potential side benefit of the active air shutters but it is not their primary function.

As others have already mentioned they can close to help the engine warm up quicker in colder weather. They also close to help with aero which can result in better MPGs.

Ford removed one because there was an issue with overheating. The EB is missing that one as well.

This is my first maverick. I ordered it a few months ago, and I picked it today.
Everything is new to me.
then it's probable that the recall modifications were rolled over into regular production in addition to larger vent holes in the felt belly pan.

If it's cold enough out to warrant closing the shutters to help keep engine temps up - then pretty sure the number of bugs crashing is minimal at that time.

And it was initially a recall fix for some engines that had quality problem in them - Ford didn't know exactly what engines - so safer to just recall and do this, and a hole in the undershield, to help mitigate the effects of the issue in case the engine blew.

They appear to have perhaps figured out it would be a good idea to have slightly increased airflow no matter what, since it's now done stock.
Sure hope it wasn't the dealer automatically removing them out of habit or mistaken process.
My 24MY mfg Feb had them missing too. And hole in undershield.

I wonder: Is there any method to control its open or close?

You could probably open and close them with Forscan. But there's no easy consumer way to control them. It's done by the computer- based on whatever parameters Ford decided on.

The recall some have mentioned is because a few Mavericks caught on fire because the engine bay was so tightly closed. I believe leaking fuel caused disaster- by venting the engine bay it's less likely to cause a huge explosive effect if something catches on fire?

This is the main reason for the shutters. They were developed originally for the C1 platform (2012) as another solution to help attain the increasingly more restrictive CAFE standards.
