TL;DR: RealTruck sales rep told me the Revolver X4ts would work with the Yakima Overhaul HD Rack. It does not... Going to modify because I cant get a call back from RealTruck/BAK.

Hey all, first post here. Made an account because I couldn't find anything anywhere that matched my problem. I'm currently having a not so great RealTruck experience. A few weeks ago I talked to a sales rep, looking for a tonneau cover with integrated T-slot rails so I could install a bed rack system. Ended up finding the BAK Revolver X4ts, which I was able to install with only a few hang-ups.

Happy with the cover overall: good security, dry, opens/closes with ease, and doesn't take up bed space like a retractable cover would. Now I also was told by the sales rep that this cover would be compatible with the Yakima Overhaul HD bed rack system as long as I got the "Tonneau Kit 1". Turns out, Tonneau Kit 1 is made for Tonneau's that have a raised/wider T-slot rail and does not even come close to fitting on the X4ts. The rails are too narrow for the base plates, interfering with the seal on the edge of the tonneau; and the contour of the base plate itself just doesn't fit.

Tech customer service has been leaving me hanging for a week and the one response I did get through the online chat just said " I don't believe you will be able to do that " when I asked for install help. Which directly contradicts the original conversation with the sales rep.

- I am unable to return the Yakima rack because I got it on a promotion.

- I could return the X4ts, but I do like it and took a lot of time to find a cover that fit all my needs.

**So I'm thinking about modifying the Tonneau Kit 1 base plates to fit as best as possible in the space provided. **

Steps:

1) Trim base plate contour to make it lower profile and match the height of the X4ts T-Slot rail.

2) Cut triangular notch into front edge of base plate to allow the X4ts seal to sit as flush as possible

3) Fill gap between bed-rail and base plate with foam strip (AC window seal I had leftover)

4) Use leftover rubber weather seal from X4ts install to fill gaps on the inside edge of the base plate/ anywhere else.

As you can tell... I'm tired of waiting. Am I crazy with this plan?

this guy seemed able to do it....

Alternatively, what if you just don't use the plastic/rubber base plate? Does the rack foot have just a plain metal base?
I did see that post. I think the way he was able to make it work was by getting the X4s and installing the t-slot rails separately, which seems to place those t-slots further out and allow the base plates to "fit". If I can avoid the hassle of returning the x4ts and purchasing two completely separate products it would be nice. But maybe I'm just trying to overengineer the thing to make up for being lazy.

The towers do just have metal base. not a flat surface either.

I had the X4S + Elevate rails originally then got the rails replaced with the X4tS rails...there's not nearly as much difference width wise as you think. I traded out the two sets for the X4tS only because of the extra fussiness making it more likely to leak.

what do the bottoms of your metal feet look like?

Rather than carve up the TK-1 kit, I'd get a black plastic cutting board (Starboard), cut 4 strips to sit between the towers and the track.

Could you please give me a link to that rack so I can see if it will fit my Syneticusa rolling cover.
Thanks
Here you go. It's "fine." Install was a little fussy as the screws you see there that connect/adjust the verticals are a bit short suuch that they have to be loosened to about the final thread to allow the plate to slide through the T-slot. but once on, it's working really well and I like it!

Also, some of the hardware that comes with...the T-bolts specifically...are an odd size. Plus the T-slots wher eyou'd attach equipment (cargo boxes, bike racks, etc) are an odd size such that I take my standard Thule/Yakima T-bolts and grind them down a few MM each side in order for them to fit the T-slots.

the crossbars are made for a full-sized truck, but I was able to hacksaw them to length.

but aside from those bits, it's inexpensive, it's sturdy, it looks pretty good (IMHO)...and produces surprisingly little to no wind noise that I can discern..

Thanks for all the info, but I need one that can clear the cab in height so that I can carry ladders.

Not to thread jack, but what did you pay for the new X4ts rails? I have the X4S + Elevate rails now and agree on its fussiness as a combo - functional, though leaky.

Send a DM to Amber at @Realtruck here on the forum....she'll get you their latest bestest price. I had done the inital purchase recently enough that I was at least able to return the Elevate rails for refund, which helped on the price.
