Great option. I orderd two basic USB HUD units from TEMU for $23 total. All I want is the speed reading to show up since it is hard to quickly read on both my Maverick and GT.....a windshield display will be so much better.
I decided to go with the Temu V09 HUD. Simple and easy to install. Hardest part was hiding the USB cable, but even that was easier than I expected. The Lariat has the digital MPH on it's display, but with all the crazy traffic we are having lately (where's the CHP?) I can keep my eyes on the road and on my speed in the same glance.

Hopefully they are accurate or close to it...still waiting for mine. I have a radar detector that is very accurate and the Maverick speed always matches it exactly but the screen is too small for a quick glance. It will be nice if I can see my speed without even having to look at the image directly.

Been using it for a day or two and it is accurate. Occasionally, it will be off by 1 mph which is not a problem. I'm satisfied with the unit. I used one of those sticky silicone dash holders to keep the unit stable yet easy to adjust it for max viewing

If all you are looking for is MPH projected on the windshield, you can accomplish that for $10 or less from Temu and ten minutes of running the USB cord to your power source.

Looks great! To run the cable/power supply, I see you followed the upper dash/windshield to get to the hud. How did you get down to power supply? Remove the driver side pillar cover? I just bought a cheap Amazon OBD hud, and I'm happy enough with it just not sure best way to get cord to it so that's it's mostly neat/hidden. Thanks for any tips!

Maybe I’m cheating. I don’t hardwire everything to the fuse box. Rather, I have a multi port USB hub located under the dash sitting on the center console. I have routed the usb power cords from the HUD, my front dash cam, and footwell ambient lighting to the hub. The hub itself is plugged into the USB B port on the dash and my CarPlay dongle to the USB C port. For the HUD, I pried loose the panel on the driver’s side of the dash and the two at my knees to route and cable tie the power cord.

I purchased the $10 HUD from Temu and it worked fine for about two weeks and then it started to off-read my mph by 20-30 units. Got a refund and applied it to a bit more expensive unit $18 and it seems to keep a better GPS reading. Time will tell.

I was wondering if it was possible to get a hud salvaged from an Escape to work. I would likely have to mod the cluster trim. Just need to know what it plugs into.

I have a digital Escape and Explorer cluster just in the process of figuring out which to keep.

I’ve been unable to find any documentation on what the hud would plug into to get it’s information, ie cluster or OBD2.

Escape cluster gives me Hybrid info but I lose tow haul and traction control.

Explorer cluster gives me tow haul and traction control but I’m struggling to get the hybrid info and “this trip” to display properly.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if the Escape has a built in HUD I should think there would be a display incorporated into the dash to accommodate how it’s projected. (I’m not familiar with the Escape). The Maverick has no such accommodation, so I’m wondering what’s to be gained by using another cluster.

Escape and Explorer clusters are fully digital. The plastic above the cluster would need to be modified to accommodate the hud if it’s possible to use.

I’ve been looking into this also but from what I’ve found is the escape has a different windshield for HUD and looking on Car-parts the setup is about $500 ouch

I would think modifying the plastic above the cluster, aka, dash, would be cost prohibitive if not impossible.

For $15-$30 one can get an add-on HUD that will work beautifully. Temu or Amazon
