Back in May when we bought our 2024 Maverick Lariat with the Black Appearance Package the wife picked the color she liked most which was Azure Gray mine was Carbonized Gray so I looked for our best deal on a truck and her color won....
So now I needed to add some Carbon Gray to this truck as the two colors work well with each other and I like the Carbon Gray...
Picked up a set of Skull caps off of Ebay last month they were not the color I needed and were in fair shape so no problem I needed to sand out all the fine scratches and prep them then shoot them Carbonized Gray....

So after some research on the net on how to take the mirrors apart today (found some not much) I decided it was time to the swap the mirror covers as the newly painted ones have been sitting for about 2+ weeks freshly painted and the paint should be completely cured...

I started on the passengers side just incase things went south... First I pulled off the upper door interior cover that covers 2 of the mirror bolts and the molex plug, the 3rd bolt is near the door seal.. Removal was rather quick and easy...

Next with the mirror on my bench I started to attempt to take it apart you have to remove the mirror glass assy. first to get to the 4 screws and 5 upper and 3 lower clips that attach the cover to the mirror housing... There is a small tang on the mirror's motor the has to be released in order to extract the mirror glass to get access to the rest of the tangs and screws. This task is not for the faint of heart it is really rather easy but you need to use even pressure when pulling on the tang don't jerk it or try to push the mirror to pop the tang loose... I used a small hook style pick as it allowed me to get behind the tang and pull on it easily with steady pressure. Get behind the tang and pull on it a few times to get the feel of how much force you need to apply.. Then I used a plastic panel tool to create upwards pressure on the mirror glass by wedging it between the mirror housing and the back of the mirror glass.. Once it is released the other 3 just follow along, I did not detach the wiring for the heated and lane alert I just moved the mirror out of my way and wrapped a micro fiber rag around it to keep anything from getting scratched....

Next I removed the 4 screws that attach the bezel that surrounds the mirror cap, then there are 5 clips that you need to release to get the bezel off of the mirror frame.
I made some small sheet metal tabs (lets call them tang wedges) to keep the tangs separated as I released each one. I used a small flat blade screwdriver to pull back on tang you then slipped in the wedge to keep them from latching together....
When all 5 are in then just gently pull upwards on the bezel and it will release from the mirror frame, the wedges will fall into the mirror frame just dump them out... I then wrapped it in the rag with the mirror.

Next there are 2 tangs and a small clip on the bottom and a small clip on the upper rim of the mirror just work your way around using light but firm even pressure while releasing the tangs and your cover will come off your done..

Installation is just basically the reverse of their removal the first mirror took me about 45 minute's to an hour had to figure it out.... The second mirror was maybe all of 15 minutes...

This is just the first of several painted and or repainted items going on our Maverick up next is a PTM tailgate handle along with a Carbonized Gray Grill Bar and some custom painted grill and tailgate emblems....
I will be having some BAP take off items for sale in the coming months....

After reading your excellent write up, I appreciate the body color mirrors that came on my 22 Lariat EB even more.

Sadly, they cheaped out and the 24 Lariat hybrid that replaced my 22 has gloss black. I like painted. Oh well...

If I could find a set of Hot Pepper Red Mirror Skull caps, I would swap out the glossy black ones that came with my Lariat BAP in a heartbeat. I have seen the matte black ones on Ebay, and I guess those would be the candidate for color matching to Hot Pepper Red. But, I suspect it would be expensive and the color match probably wouldn't come out right.
