With early hybrids, people used to emphasize they were HYBRIDS and not part-time EV's.

The Hybrid Mavericks ARE part-time EV's. Which is why the added cost and trouble of a full PHEV is not very attractive in this case.

I got my Maverick about 1 year after they hit the streets. Reading these pages before getting mine I was more than a little surprised LOTS of people were getting 75% of city miles from electric.

I have driven hybrids for 19, almost 20 years now. The earliest ones you were lucky to get 25% electric miles. (Different battery chemistry also, NiMH)

Some people worry about "conversion" losses. This a a false premise.

Converting gas to electricity and then turning the wheels with electric motors is ALWAYS more efficient than directly driving the wheels from a gasoline engine in city drive conditions.

Direct drive from gasoline at sustained high speed is more efficient than converting.

Which is why we have HYBRIDS.

We can have the best of both, based on the conditions present.

That must have been a pretty big hill you drove down to get that mileage. My drive home is 177 feet downhill. SE Michigan is flat as a pancake.
