So, I haven't bought a new car in a while. I decided to order a Maverick from my closest ford dealer. They forced me to buy a lo-jack and appearance protection packages. I ended up cancelling and going with a different dealer. They did not force me to buy lo-jack and appearance protection, but they did something else I'm a bit suspicious of. They know I want the truck as soon as possible (doesn't everyone?) so the guy who ordered it for me told me the spray-in bedliner and mudflaps ae two items that cause delays to delivery (not sure how he termed it) so he said they'll get the spray-in bedliner and flaps from a local shop, and charged me the exact same prices as if they got it from the factory, despite the lack of badging on the bedliner. It got me thinking - is he really doing me a favor, getting the truck in earlier? Or are they using the delivery delays as an opportunity to make extra money by getting the bedliner done aftermarket maybe from a local dealer that might charge $300 instead of $475, perhaps with an additional kickback for bringing them business? I think we've all had experiences with car salespersons who are not on the up and up, so no matter how honest, blunt, and straightforward the guy seemed to be, I'll always be suspicious. What do you think?

Several of the good dealerships that a lot of us deal with on this forum are offering this same thing. I don't think there is anything shady about it from the sound of it.

You found a good dealer with your second try. They sound like they are working in your best interest. Mudflaps and bedliner will delay getting scheduled for production.

There is another thread where someone posted a list of the things causing delays in production at the factory. Bedliner was one of the issues. My dealer removed the item for the same reason.

The cost of spray in isn’t bad at all. If it were me I would ask where they get the spray in done at, the level of spray in, and call for a quote my self. For example Line X has 3 different levels of spray in: Standard, Premium and Platinum. Premium is the best bang for the buck as it has added sun protection. If you get a bed cover you probably just need standard. Where they get the spray in done determines the warranty, so ask if it is lifetime and if there are any steps involved to getting the warranty and where you need to go if you have issues. If the warranty is nationwide and if the spray in place is nationwide or local mom and pop.

This is exactly why I love the internet (and for Pr0n).
OP, you did yourself a service asking these fine forum folks, plus you were right to still be suspicious, as not all dealerships are anywhere near reputable (see recent threads here regarding that very thing).

Ford Maverick Tryna figure out if this is legit BCDE6891-FD14-4015-85B2-E5B44510305F

Just to further confirm what everybody else has already said, on the maverick configuration page of ford’s website under mud flaps if you click the little “I” for more information it also lists the mud flaps as being “late availability”.

How were your "forced" to buy those options?

The second dealer is spot on. Those items cause delays in production. And now the cost of spray in bedliners across the industry is going through the roof. Their pice is beyond fair.

In a nutshell......................
First dealer = thief.
Second dealer = Ok.
