I thought I'd bring up this question here. Maybe someone understands towing more than I do. I was told the Maverick with 4K package cannot tow over 4,000 lb because that would be more than it weighs. But the Tesla cybertruck weighs 6,603 lb yet they say it can pull 11,000 lb is that right? Or even safe. Plus I thought there was a calculation to figure out the weight of the vehicle and how much it can pull. Thanks in advance 🙂

It can only legally tow 4000 pounds (with tow package) because that's what Ford is willing to warranty, test and certify it for.

You can tow almost anything with anything, I once dragged an 8800 pound bobcat and 3000 pound trailer with a '86 Toyota Pickup that probably weighed 3400 pounds. We only went a few blocks and needed to use 4low to get it moving but it did it.
Was it safe? No, not in the slightest but that's what tow ratings are for.

My dad used to tow a huge trailer and race car with a Toyota pickup. It was a little one before they called them tacomas. I don’t remember where we were going, but up hill, we were going very slow.

I think the towing capacity was 3500lbs. I am pretty sure we were close to that, if not over slightly. That was a lot of weight for that little truck though.

Vehicle weight and tow capacity aren't directly related. After all a 4k tow Maverick doesn't weigh a ton more than one only rated for 2,000 lbs. It's a holistic outcome of the chassis, suspension, powertrain, cooling, and braking engineering limits.

Usually, the safety issue isn't pulling, it is stopping. A trailer with brakes makes a lot of difference. Towing is a lot harder on the bearings and transmission also. I am a metallurgist and have worked on a few gear fatigue problems. One of the worst things you can do to your transmission is put a snow plow on the front of your truck.

How about a parachute on the back?

(IE tall trailer.)

There's NO LAW regarding how much you can tow (with a pickup, well under the 80,000 lb commercial limit for most roads).

It is about what your truck is warranted for.

It's not about safety.
A 2k Maverick pulling a trailer with brakes is just as safe as a 4k Maverick pulling the same trailer with brakes. The 4k Maverick may have a better engine, making it more suitable for a long haul, that's it.

Depending where you are, there may or may not be different laws. For example, in Alberta if your trailer weighs more than 910kg and is more than 50% of the tow vehicle's weight you must have brakes while other jurisdictions have very different laws.

The 4k doesn't get a better engine vs non-4k tow trucks.

OP, ask your expert why a 5900# F150 can haul 13,500# then stop listening to them.
