2024 Hybrid exhaust pipe what the heck is this???

I'm building a side exit exhaust tip and was under the truck taking some measurements for the project and noticed this welded in patch in the tail pipe its about 2'' up from the exhaust exit. It looks like it is perforated as you can see tiny slits in the metal? Anybody got a clue as to what and why...

Exhaust resonator. It is "stock" and comes that way from the factory. At some point in production they started adding those. They were not on the early years, but are now.

I always thought a Exhaust Resonator looked much like a muffler not this little 2''x 2.5'' piece welded to the side of the exhaust pipe? Is there and interior portion to it?

That article on new resonator technology was fascinating. I noticed "it" when I was under my truck the other day ho humming about fabricating a shield for the cavity behind the D/S rear wheel. Now I know the purpose!
