Esp for drivers' door, the upper cloth near-handle area can get dusty/dirty. Really that upper area should have been non-cloth plastic/vinyl, etc.

Are there any aftermarket replacements for this upper cloth area (I think the lower areas are for speaker and I can leave that alone). Sure, it looks good in design photos but that was one thing I think not well thought-out. Or, are there any XLT/Lariat/etc. substitutable non-cloth parts there?

Plan B, otherwise, is just to cover it with clear plastic carpet protector sheet.

Can you post a picture of the area you are referencing? Pictures help some people to visualize.
Thank You

Glen,
This... perhaps it's termed 'cloth rear armrest' or 'bolster'

See picture below...

Bill,
Thank you for the picture
I see now.
I had no idea what you were talking about. I did not think about the armrest being cloth.
Mine appears to be active-x
a.k.a. pleather. Hmmm I wonder what an auto upholstery shop would charge to recover those? Or what a set of xlts would run through Ford or auto salvage??
Good luck
GB

Part #5 in this image is probably what you want. The XLT version is vinyl-esque. I think the Lariats are the same for that part. It's a $70 upgrade (per side), but I had no idea it was cloth in the XLs.

Not sure if you can replace it without pulling the whole door card, but there is probably a stereo upgrade thread around here with some good pics of the inside of the door.

Would you happen to know if that is mounted from behind the door panel OR can it just be popped off from the exposed front of the door panel using trim removal tools ... [pic below]

No, I do not know, which is what I tried to say in my post.

I suggested looking through a stereo upgrade thread, because many folks have documented adding sound deadening or other tweaks while they worked on the door speakers. The post above yours also links to a thread about the door assembly which might be handy.

Thanks. I watched those videos ... didn't help.
