So I’ve been having intermittent battery light and today my Maverick stalled out and then died a little while later. Won’t start, seemingly completely dead battery. Taking to Ford tomorrow, my question, when I tried to start it one last time I got a check engine light for a power train module that didn’t power down correctly. Could that be just because of the battery being dead? Here’s a screen shot from ford pass, any guidance is appreciated- cheers

If you send me your VIN and can check what the DTC's are and see if there is any more info I can pass on.

Probably related, but tough to say until you get a new battery. Make sure they put in an AGM if you have the enhanced flooded battery.

You have a lot of codes!! Some are for battery voltage, which may be the cause of most of the rest.
The relevant code that caused that message in Ford Pass is P068A:00:AE "ECM/PCM Power Relay De-Energized Performance - Too Early"

I am NOT a technican myself, but did peak in the workshop manual. Here is what triggers that DTC:
Sets when the non volatile random access memory write did not complete successfully after the ignition key was turned OFF, prior to PCM shutdown. This DTC also sets when the PCM power relay is de-energized too early.

Possible Causes

PCM power circuitry concern
PCM power relay (12A646)

PCM (12A650)

It could be a battery issue as well.

It sounds similar to the issue involved in recall 24S24 - but yours is not covered by that FSA.

I hope this helps you a little!! You dealership's service department should be able to see all of this too. Hopefully they can do some research ahead of time.

You have low mileage, and there are other battery/low voltage/charging system faults from earlier in June.... so it all does seem to point towards the battery!

Good luck!

My hybrid did that. Called the local dealer who sent out roadside service. The 12 volt battery only had 5.6 volts. As soon as he turned the jumpstart on, the truck came alive and started. Took it to the dealer who provided a rental until it was “fixed”. 28 days later they called and said it was ready. They replaced the 12 volt battery, TCM and BCM. So far, so it is okay.

Update- Ford sent a mobile service tech to my house, he swapped my battery and we did the power control module update and I’m back in business. Thank you Beiner Ford. To be clear, after we put the new battery in, it was still turning over strangely, so something about the power control module being perfectly calibrated has something to do with the battery relay/power distribution etc I’d assume. It was only after we did the update that everything was ok. Thanks for your help! - John

Update….not fixed! Just turned it over in the morning and it clicked a few times before engaging. Hey Ford, what could be going on here? Will be bringing it to my dealer in the AM….bummed. The issues are starting to outweigh the fun and reliability which is why I got this truck in the first place….

Update - loose ground wire! A loose ground connection to the PCM was causing the battery to not charge properly and was causing my power train control module issues. Easy fix, thankfully and quick. Thx Beiner Ford!
