I've worked hard to provide for my family (built a good life). He understands he will have to work for this vehicle both academically and monetarily to keep it. Nothing is given in life for free. I understand your point (though a little excessive comparing a maverick to a 70K electric truck) and have real reservations about giving any 16 year old a new vehicle. Ultimately the safety features of newer vehicles out weighed giving him my older F150.

I did the same thing with my son when he got his drivers licence, got him a 1998 Chevy S-10 standard shift. (Only held 2 people, stick shift, all men should know how to drive stick), good visability for easy parking) Since then, he has always had a truck, plus a daily driver. His latest truck is a Sierra Denali 2500 Diesel to haul his car trailer. Your son will be thanking you for the rest of his life for making him a "Truck Guy"
