I just noticed that Ford has come up with a software update solution to the under hood fire recall. Anyone have this done? What does it do?

I am curious myself and not sure a software update is going to fix that issue. Especially if it is a faulty internal part to the engine like reported. It sure would be nice to get some guidance from Ford. It has been a year since the recall

After a little more googling, It's a software update that supposedly detects an impending engine failure and limits engine power. I wonder how many false positives will be detected. Also, what happens when an impending failure is detected? Then what? Does Ford then replace the engine?
What happens if there's a detection outside of the warranty period?

Outside the warranty period, I'd say you're F'd On a Raw Deal.

I'm not a fan of extended warranties. But if my truck was built during the small window of time the potentially defective engines were built, and if I planned to keep it many years, I would consider buying a ext. warranty near the end of the first year of ownership. After that, the price goes up.

I bought my 22 XLT used while still under the 'fire' recall. The dealer wouldn't sell it without an OK from Ford... it took a few months, but they "fixed it". never told me what they did. Rumor here is that they drilled some holes in the oil pan to let engine fluids leak out so there's less chance they get to explosive concentration after a catastrophic engine failure. 🤷‍♀️

per the program: NOTE: Customer Satisfaction program 23N06 (to be released May 2024) will be activated on 2020- 2022 Model Year Escape, 2021-2022 Model Year Corsair and 2022-2023 Model Year Maverick vehicles, which will provide extended warranty coverage for the engine.
So, we WILL be getting extended warranty...I will post when i see the N program come out...

My Ford Dealership's Mobile service team did this update in my driveway along with some additional scheduled maintenance. No problem and no issue. They also did this same update service on my wife's Ford Escape.

I'm a big fan of the Mobile Service my dealership offers. I don't have to schedule an appointment and leave my car at the dealership. I schedule the appointment and the mobile service brings everything they need to do the service in my driveway. I've had no issues!
