Roger, your photo really takes me back! In 1972, I was courting my future wife, long distance. She lived in New Bern NC and I lived in Washington, DC. I was tearing up the highway every weekend. Her car was a Maverick like yours. Mine was a 1970 Barracuda convertible with a "383 4-barrel," getting ZERO MILES PER GALLON. After my second trip, I traded cars with her. Man, that gas needle on that Maverick never moved!

That .23 a gallon must have really added up, I'll bet you were spending $3.50 to fill that tank 😁 I remember when I first started driving and gas shot up to .50 a gallon, didn't know how I was going to afford it.

My wife had this one when we got married in 71. 120ci 3 on tree, no a/c, 1970 with “appearance“ pkg. I had a 70 Nova 350ci, duals, a/c. We both worked, guess who got to now drive the a/c automatic Nova? I really liked the Maverick. It had a tad over 100k miles on it when I sold to a friend. Have always thought a later year V8 Grabber would be a really great around town fun car.

What a coincidence!! So many people meeting their future wives who happen to be driving a Maverick? My wife was driving a 72 Maverick when I met her. Loved driving it!!

In 1963/64?, my ship went into the Todd Shipyards in San Pedro. They were having a gas war in the Long Beach area, and gas went down to 19 CENTS a gallon. My little car only had a 10 gallon tank.

My wife had one just like the photo in my Avatar, '72 Patriot package with 302 V8. Really a quick little car. We hardly ever see and 70's Mavericks on the road anymore.
