Anyone have a recommendations for a trailer hitch vise that doesn't hit the tailgate when it's down?

Adjustable height hitch maybe?

That could be an option, I hadn't considered that thanks! I was hoping to use the "Wilton ATV All-Terrain Vise, 6" Jaw Width, 5-3/4" Max Jaw Opening, 5" Throat (10010) from Amazon and it juuust touchs the tailgate when it is down. If the tailgate where to be let down with the vise on it would 100% hit the paint/maybe dent.

Yeah you will have to use a extension or drop of some kind. When you look for the right one look for one that can be adjusted back up to a working height. I have wanted one on the front hitch of my Comanche for a long time. Really most of the ones you see are in flatbed, or service bed trucks without a traditional tailgate or a lot of room between the hitch and the gate.

The lowest profile vice I can seem to find is the MACs Trail D vice. But it has less features than a bench vice. I swear I had seen a better one that rotated to get out of the way in a offroad magazine, but since i love my wife i have had to discard the archives. I would get creative though and make and modify some adapters to do exactly what you want.
