TK's 2022 Maverick XLT Ecoboost

Hey I come from the Honda Fit also ... incredible car that can tow 2000 lbs, and with the seats down you can put inside a full size road bike without removing wheel ...Last night I picked up my 2022 Maverick XLT Ecoboost from the dealership. I placed the order on 1/22/2022. 326 days later I took delivery. I'm going to use this journal to keep track of mods, maintenance and anything I do with the truck.

The first 100 miles I must say it was worth the wait. Comfortable, quiet and plenty of power for me. Coming from a Honda Fit this is a major upgrade. There will be a lot of pictures shared here.

I finally found the rattle/noise I have had for almost a year. It only happened when it was colder. It was a clicking sound that was driving me crazy.
Some searching on the forum and I found others had the same issue. The windshield alignment pin was the culprit. Instead of cutting it off like others I bent the piece of metal the pin aligns into and no more noise. If the noise comes back I will look into it further. Below is a video of the noise.

Installed some Built Right bags and Quick Fist mount today. I’m looking for a tool kit I can mount on the molle rack. I’m thinking a roll up tool kit that can be held onto the rack with velcro straps.
I plan on putting a bike air pump on the quick fist mount. For now a breaker bar takes its place haha.

I had a transmission fluid exchange done yesterday at the dealer. I provided my own fluid and told them to supply more if it was needed. I gave them 6qts and they said they didn't need anymore. I had 21,214 miles on the truck. They also used some BG trans flush fluid. I didn't know about this and I am pretty annoyed they charged me $52.50 for it. If I knew about that I would have told them not to use that.
Overall it wasn't bad. Dropped the truck off around 7:40AM and I got the call to pick it up at 9:30AM. I used my Ford points to pay the difference since I supplied the fluid. Total was $173.27. The truck shifts a little smoother with light driving and a little harder when on the throttle. I'll probably do this again in another 20k miles. I plan on changing the PTU and rear diff fluid soon.

Tonight was fluid changing time. It was due for an oil change, PTU fluid change and a Rear Differential fluid change.
The quick jacks pick the tiny truck up with easy and gives me plenty of room underneath for a creeper.
There was 4,848 miles on this oil. The oil looked great.
This was the drain plug to the PTU. A delicious metal slurry on there. The fluid was dark and I am glad I changed it now.
It took around half a quart of fluid.
This was the rear differential drain plug. This had even more metal on the drain plug and the fluid was darker in color. I recommend changing these fluids around this mileage. The OEM Ford fluid is cheap on RockAuto.
A mileage update as of tonight. Going on a charity drive this weekend with a bunch of Subaru's. I guess I can pretend I am one because of the AWD and turbo engine haha. It's like a new Baja.
The fluid I used is below. OEM Motorcraft fluid for the PTU and rear diff. I use Pennzoil Euro 5W40 for the engine oil with OEM Motorcraft oil filters.

I drove 1,738 miles these past few days. The Mav handled the drive great and I was very pleased with the fuel mileage. We hit some snow in some spots and it did great. Loving this little truck. Now to wash all the salt off. I've been meaning to apply some fluid film type product underneath but never got around to doing so.

I finally received an update on my Ranger Raptor order. Scheduled for production in February.
I don't think I will be taking delivery of it. From the markup and financing options it feels like a dumb idea. My Mav is perfect for me but I am curious about the new Ranger.

Some recent photos.
Random question but I believe you've done several fluid swaps since you've taken delivery. For your transmission fluid, did you use Mercon ULV or a non-Motorcraft brand? Any thoughts?

For the transmission I used the OEM Ford fluid. Still under warranty and the fluid worked fine for all the miles before. I don't see a point in going to a different fluid. I will most likely stay with the same fluid for the life I own the truck and just keep doing fluid changes after 20k or so miles.
How many quarts did you use in your real-life ATF drain and re-fill? I’m getting a lot of ‘it depends’ and non-commitment from my dealer. Thanks!
