Hello everyone,

I just got back from a dealership to get my truck inspected for a vibration while accelerating to highways speeds. I already assumed cv axle before I took it in because it only vibrated while accelerating. The problem comes from them saying its back ordered and can't get one till about January.

They said it is safe to drive on but I drive a lot and don't think it would be safe to drive on for that long. I am currently in Oklahoma for work but leaving on the 19th for Florida then headed to Louisiana after the new year. If it is that back ordered and potentially going to take a month and half to arrive, should I call a dealership is Louisiana near where I'll be and see if they can order it ahead of time? Or, does anyone know if I can source one myself then take it in to get fixed?

Man that sucks.
I seriously doubt any dealer would put on any part that they didn't sell you.
Being safe to drive depends all upon how bad it vibrates in my opinion. So that's a tough call.

A dealership wouldn't but I could go to most mechanic shops and ask them to do it. I would be paying out of pocket but at least I wouldn't be waiting almost two months. Pros and cons man

Oh yes, I agree.
I put a new water pump on my last truck myself just to avoid the dealer. Cost me about $100 but I had it done in an hour and didn't have to go through all their crap. Well worth it to me.

rockauto doesn't have it as far as I can find. Lakeland Ford parts has it with matching part number even. 107 there, can a dealership order parts from another dealership for warranty?

Buy it from them and have it shipped to your dealer or to ur home then take it to them with the truck.

That goes into what silver said about a dealer not wanting to put on a part that they didn't sell me. I've never had a vehicle new enough to have a warranty so I am not sure exactly how that works

No warranty? It's only at 33k.
Yes it has a warranty. That’s why I went to the dealership. The problem is that the warranties part is a month and a half out

This is possible. While I was waiting for months for an evap part, the parts guy at my dealer said he called a few other dealers looking for it. He also said if I found one to let him know and he would reach out to that dealer.... which never did happen lol. My part was unobtanium for many months.

I drive a lot, hence the 33k miles since I got it in April. I would rather not leave this, just in the next month, I plan on driving from oklahoma to florida then back towards louisiana. That is a lot to have a wearing CV axle. and being that it is vibrating, that creates extra wear on that part and others around it increasing chances of failure. I will call today and see if they can order it from there and let everyone know what they say

They said they couldn't order it from Lakeland Ford in florida, they could if it was closer but thats "too far". I asked if I order it, could they install it with the labor under warranty and he said no because that "doesn't follow specific procedures"

Guess I am buying it out of pocket and taking it to another shop. I could do it myself but the place I am at now doesn't allow car maintenance to be done on premises
