I can’t seam to find a definitive answer on them. I am seeing them being called manual sliding rear window and than power, what am I missing here?
lariats or lux package get a Power sliding rear window but on a xl/xlt it’s only a manual sliding ie physically pushing window open like a old truck?

You hit the nail on the head. That is exactly the difference between the two.

Yes, get in the back seat, unlatch the window and slide it open in this new truck.

The power slider is only available on the lariat (might need the lux package too?), the xl and xlt are manual only (even with the lux package).

You don't need luxury package for the power slider, its standard on the Lariat... sadly.

I have one on my Ram, and IMO even with power they are pretty useless on a crew cab truck where you have back windows. They block some vision, can become a source of rattles, squeaks, or leaks, can let in more noise, and make tinting more of a pain. Worse though are the manual ones which are even more obstructive and less useful since you'd almost never climb back there to open it.

Its one of my gripes with the Lariat is that you are forced to get the rear window port.

Damn, maybe I should remove the rear window from my order?!

I decided against it. If you haul long items that could benefit from being stuck through the window hole it might be worth it.

All good points. Those are the same reasons that I did not order the manual sliding window on my XL. Obstruction of view and having to crawl in and out of the back to open or close it were my main issues.

Currently have a F150, power slider in rear window. Only use 2-3 times a year mainly if additional breeze is wanted. On an older Ranger was manual slider. Rarely opened that one as it was manual.
Plus I'm thinking of adding some additional tint to back window. Figure it may look better with out the small slider.

No.....that is his view.....I love rear windows and they do make a difference with all windows down on air flow......I paid to add one to my truck. I also have never had an issue with one except on my 359 where the power window is notorious for sticking and not opening or shutting.

Rear slider to me is just personal preference. Kinda like color. You mentioned using yours a lot as opposed to myself, pretty much never.

As I said different stroke for different folks.

To me they are what I call a vestigial feature.

In the past a large portion of pickups were single cabs, and you could open them up so the air coming in your cracked front windows had a exit spot, but with long crew cabs you can accomplish the same with the rear windows. Either way, once underway you are going to want to usually close them again when going on the highway, but with a manual one you can't just reach behind you to do that if its a crew cab.

It also used to be somewhat common to have people in the bed of your truck, so having a back window was great to pass things through and communicate, but safety culture has changed and its pretty discouraged (and in many places illegal) to have folks back there.

The port itself is not flush with a hard tonneau or particularly large to use as a passthrough for long objects into the cab. Now if it were like the Toyota which drops the whole rear glass like a window, that one can be a pass through and is cool, but no such luck.

My preference is not to have it and to keep the rear headrests stored under the seat when not in use to improve rear visibility.

I plan to store the rear headrests under the seat as well. My back seat will rarely have passengers.

If it’s not something you have and will continue to use frequently, I wouldn’t worry about what type it is, or skip the option all together if not getting a trim or package that includes it.

Besides more cost, more potential for air/water leaks, etc…I’m not a fan of how the sliders are constructed on these floating style Ford windows, at least on the F150. On those, the top track is simply held on to the surrounding glass with 4 little strips of double sided tape and a small bead of sealant across the middle third. Apparently not great for longevity. Mine fell apart earlier this year on my 16 F150, and after some searching, appears that it’s relatively common. I dunno if it’s constructed the same way on the maverick as I still have yet to see one in person, but seeing how they are the same general style, I suspect it is. I’d kinda just put it in the too much potential trouble unless your dying to have one category like sunroofs.
