Well, some of you may have seen my stories I've posted about the ordering process. Like my mom used to say, things usually work out for the better...

In a nutshell, I'd tried to order in 22 but missed the window. Asked to be put on 23 order list, but apparently wasn't and I didn't remember to order online thinking I would get a call when I could. My bad! Started inquiring more. Finally a nearby (1.5 hours) dealer got an AWD XLT Area 51 in stock, but it disappeared before I could get my deposit to them the next morning. Was called back that they had a Tremor Lariat fully decked out with lux package, etc.. Too rich for my blood.

I finally got in a 24 order a day after the window opened. I made some changes (all before I was given a production date), signed & returned the new build sheets, and verified these were submitted to Ford with the dealer. One of the changes was to remove the floor mats and splash guards, and when I verified they were removed I ordered aftermarket ones. Well it turns out they weren't removed, and I only discovered this after I had a build date. Oops.

I posted here some about worrying about the splash guards postponing my order into the winter or even next spring. The general consensus was if I had the build date, I'd get the truck on schedule. It didn't turn out that way. The truck was in production since Oct. 18th, the modules popped the following week on the 25th... and early this morning the dreaded Almost Built email arrived. I'm guessing the splash guards were the stumbling block.

I'd been browsing the dealer's website and saw they had a 2023 in transit. No floor mats or splash guards that I didn't want. Same AWD XLT FX4 4K Cactus Gray I'd ordered. Close enough, can this be done? Hmmm. I bounced it off the dealer sales rep. as a shot in the dark. Eureka! She transferred my deposit to the 23, which is expected to arrive very soon! I will lose the bug screen and engine heater, but gain the 23 model's battery wired entry keypad that I really wanted. I can get an aftermarket bug screen, I hope I can get an aftermarket engine heater that'll work. Of course I'm also going to be paying a bit less for the 23 than the 24, which should help me cover the taxes. It's all good!

So, I'm hoping maybe in a week or so I'll be sitting in my shiny brand spankin' new Maverick. What a long, strange trip it's been already, and I haven't even driven the truck yet! Mom was right, as usual!

Kudos to the dealer for working with me on the old switcheroo!

You can add the bug deflector and I don't think you'll miss the engine block heater. I've got it and I've been toying around with it and it really doesn't do too much. The 2.0 EB is quick to heat up.

Congrats on moving your timeframe up and nabbing basically the vehicle that you ordered!

It's my 60th birthday/Christmas present to myself! First new vehicle of my lifetime. Thanks to the Hermosillo elves and saleslady, it should be a good Christmas for dashing thru the snow!

Hope the stock tires on the AWD FX4 4K are at least acceptable in the snow. I probably won't replace them unless and until I have to.

Sheer luck. I never go to their website, and for some reason decided to see what kind of Mavericks were in the stable. Total coincidence it was such a close match to what I'd ordered. It does seem like some shopping around for aftermarket parts is worth the effort. I found some really good deals on eBad and Amazon. Kikito hard trifold tonneau for $367, Icon floor mats for $55, and also got some of the Mabett (?) dual density bendable type mudflaps when they were on sale for like $35.

If you look around you can find the factory engine heater, probably at 4WDParts but you can most likely order one from Summit. I have been able to find parts in the most unusual places that are identical to the original equipment. Being in Western Wyoming you will probably want to get one. I spent a few winters in Jackson Hole and didn't have a heater on one of those balmy -30 mornings.

I was reading another post where someone was saying installing the OEM engine heater would basically require tearing the engine apart. I'm not sure if that's the case, but I'm hoping to find an easily installed aftermarket one.

After looking at the service manual, the block heater simply screws into a port at the upper back side of the block, so about midway down with all the plastic that is on the top of the engine. I found a block heater at Jegs as well as Rock Auto. If you want a factory type unit you can order it directly from the parts department at most any Ford dealership. I would bet it will be around $120 for the screw-in heater and probably another $60 for the cable but that would make it factory. You will also need to change the PCM code for the cabin heater or it will probably toss a few codes at you. If I were in Jackson Hole, I would probably opt for a silicon pad heater that attaches to the oil pan because using a block heater to keep the coolant warm and thereby keep the engine warm, really will take some serious Forscan PCM code experiments to keep from throwing fault codes. The Service manual gives four fault codes that are thrown for the Charge air cooler, and engine air temperature when the block heater has a fault so it looks like there are a few different adjustments Ford made for the block heater. An oil pan heater is less costly and works fine when you need it. About the only time I wanted one is when the temp fell below 0 and over in western Idaho that only happens for about two weeks a year and I keep my Mav in the garage.
