Rather than automatically assuming the city screwed up, why not ask "how was the decision made to buy this truck?'; and then if they appear to being loose with the city's $$, go after them. Maybe just maybe there was a good reason. Have a nice day!!
If you look at the picture, the truck has Lariat wheels. That suggests to me that someone visited the options list for non-essential items. If they needed FX4, then the XLT is justified, but it makes me wonder when I see stuff I know isn't a need item.

With respect to your suggested approach, that's basically what I did with our police department and the result is that they agreed to scale back some of their requests. The detective, however, got her car because the justification was sufficient to approve the spend.

To be accurate, those are not Lariat specific wheels. Those are the wheels you were required to switch to if you chose the 235/65 Wildpeak tire option (which it looks like they did). Ford did not let you keep the standard black FX4 wheel when you optioned that tire size. If they had a legit need for FX4 related stuff, I could see why they switched to the Wildpeaks and ended up with that wheel bc the Pirelli on the regular FX4 wheel was trash and not at all capable in inclement conditions or off pavement. Not justifying either way as I have never seen this thing move from its Pavement Princess spot at Meridian City Hall.

They went with the XLT because he needs cruise control so he can multitask when going to a fire!

What's the big deal?
Some cops around here have Teslas.
You need 150 MPH to chase someone doing 150 MPH!

Lmao, these dudes risk their lives regularly, and some people want to penny pinch in a vehicle they will spend a zillion hours in. First thoughts being " I am glad that isn't my tax dollars" is kind of disgusting.

I am glad I don't live in your area.

My Chief had POS chief vehicles all the time, and if anyone deserved something a little extra, it was him.

Raymundo is probably on to what happened, they were told they had a budget of $XXXX and picked something at or below that cost. The Alternative is they spec'd it out, presented, and got approved for probably what was WAY lower than a SUV or fullsize truck.

Would really shit your pants if that is real gold leaf and you saw the cost 😂

On the OP, fantastic looking truck!

Edit - should have watched the video first. I thought those were Lariat wheels. But that really should have been an XL instead of hitting taxpayers with the bill for a higher trim level.
Really?? I'll bet his last staff car was twice the price. Administrator's, director's, department heads are offered perks and compensation packages in a lot of jurisdictions to recruit and retain the best talent for their constituents. It's how it works.

Yeah, I saw the XLT badge when I watched the video. But, as a FinCom member I would have wanted to know why the chief needed the XLT trim level for a vehicle that isn't intended for personal use.
my local FD has an F250, maybe be more appreciative of this fire chief opting for something much smaller and much better on gas....

Ford Maverick Fire Department "Chief's Truck" Maverick Build 1698926710631

Any Maverick trim level is a bargain compared to what most departments are getting.
The taxpayer in Meridian ID did better than us Denver $$$ taxpayers.

Shenandoah NP has several Mavericks in their fleet, if the vehicles are on the State or national list, you can bet they didn't pay retail, it looked like an XLT by the seats, nothing wrong with an officer having a nice ride. OBTW, the city I retired from had 3 Chevy Volts that Obama paid for with Vouchers because the government subsidized Chevrolet, then gave more money away to government entities purchase top shelf vehicles, geese youse guyz are so naive.

I am extremely curious on where they mounted the siren speaker at. Will be upfitting my Mav, so looking to see how others did it
Maybe they just added siren app to the engine sound speaker?😁
I wasn't paying attention to the vehicle in the movie where the martians wearing the glass bubble gum machine helmets showing their heads exploding when granny's favorite yodeling song was being played from the gigantic mega horn speaker! Was that a maverick PROTOTYPE?

Nice truck but the song is more fitting for the fire fighters, not the Chief. 😜

XLT is still under 30K where are you going to find something that cheap! They could have bought a F150 for 60K then what would you say?
