I always tell newly YouTube certified mechanics to have a back up plan. Like a a way to get a rental car, or a way to tow it to the dealer. Sometimes a job isn’t as easy as it looks on line. It just happens the 3 seconds they skipped over was a Mutha &@“@!&. You’re correct though! Many things can be done easily at home. If you’ve got the tools, time, and space you can fix just about anything.

my Prius suspension replacement cost me $650 compared to $4,400 at the dealer. Front Struts, sway bar links, sway bar bushings, rear springs, rear shocks, front lower control arms and ball joint, inner/outer tie rod ends.

Very good advice. I recall a simple brake replacement going like this...

- Take things apart and realize I need a new caliper
-
- Trip to autoparts store in wifes car and back no probs
- Wife heads out, but fine because I got what I need
- Find out I need a new brake hose for that caliper
-
- Ride bike to the parts store, hose obtained
- overtorque and sheer off Caliper bolt finishing job
-
- throw in the towel and call out of work the next morning to fix the car instead.

I'll likely be keeping my beater when my mav arrives instead of selling for scrap. Fallback plan is worth way more than a couple hundy.

That would be for synthetic blend only. If you want / require full synthetic (like hybrid), the "works" oil change will be more.

my rationale for going with the Ford recommended synthetic blend & oil filter is twofold ; one because all my oil changes are done at the dealership if there ever is some kind of maint related engine issue i'm covered, in warranty or not.
next, i'm retired now and dont drive as much these days so i usually change the oil every 10k miles or 12 months, whichever comes 1st.
the oil & filter of my Hybrid will never be in the Mav long enough for whatever miniscule benefits of full synthetic oil vs synthetic blends to make a material diff in engine life or performance is'nt a concern for me.
why pay almost twice as much for the full vs the blended synthetic Ford recommended oil?
Eco owners may need to change the oil & filter more often since their ICE's have to work much more than the Hybrid powertrain ICE does.

That is my point. 0W20 Full Synthetic is what Ford recommends for the 2.5L hybrid engine. If you take it to a dealership, this is what they should be using.
