You have a hybrid. There are what, no more than 60,00 hybrids in use in America? Ever seen the "plate" (for lack of a more technical term) that has to be removed before an oil change? There are about 50,000 little screws to be removed then replaced when done.

I wouldn't trust that to the dudes working at random oil change places. Even the new, inexperienced techs at Ford will hopefully have done enough to get it right. On this one, I say stick with Ford, the pricing is close enough to make it worthwhile in the long run.
only 60k Mav's in all of America? i have not done any research, but that sure seems on the low end to me....just saying. curious as to how many Mav's have been delievered to date and what the Eco/Hybrid breakdown is? i have seen reports of as high as a 80/20% hybrid to eco mix but i have no definitive #'s to back that up.

I think he was saying 60K Hybrid Mavericks. Sounds about right I would think. I dunno.

What bothers me is that a highly reputable dealer that gave me a great buying experience seems to be at odds with what some are saying here. I would expect the people who service Fords to know details like whether one brand or another of oil or filter will void a warranty. It is all they do all day long. They should know.
in most dealerships the 'oil change' quick lane guy will fall into one of two categories; new guy low person or old timer wrench turner who doesnt want to be bothered with the complicated/difficult stuff anymore. hope & pray you get the later.

I am a nearly lifetime service advisor, and worked for Lincoln. I can tell you that your advisor is wrong. Period. If you have an in warranty engine related failure and no service records at the dealer they are going to ask for the records for where the services were done. When they get those records they are going to need to have part numbers and part description and they will make sure that the correct thing has been used before Ford writes a check to fix a car that they have not been servicing.
100% agree that this is how it works.

Why would you spend that effort to call Ford and not just buy the easily correct oil for the car? you spent $30 ish thousand dollars on the car. You can't afford the correct oil? Cheaping out on stuff like this is mind boggling to me
It is mind boggling to me that someone would spend $30 for oil when $20 oil will be every bit as good in every way. I paid cash for my Maverick but that does not mean I will throw money away.

6 qt Kirkland Signature full synthetic, compliant with Ford spec, is under $20 at the current $30.99/10 qt sale price, so what's the issue here?

There are pages and pages of opinions here as to what is the best brand of oil, brand of filter, and oil change frequency.

But there is no controversy about voiding your warranty.

As long as the oil and filter you use meets Ford specs and the frequency is at or sooner than recommended, you wont "void your warranty"

What makes it the "correct" oil. My mind is boggled by people that think that more expensive is better. Products are priced by what the market will bear. As long as people think that what the dealer sells or what has the OEM name on it is better it bears a higher price.

That it meets the spec listed in the manual. Seems to be harder to find a store or name brand that does not comply with the latest WSS specs than one that does.

@jsus - info was straight out the manual for hybrid Mavs.

This is the most overthought and opinionated issue on this forum.
Agreed .... I thought we were trying to help someone find oil/filter meeting specs by Ford for a Hybrid Maverick.

Instead it seems the post was about proving a point rather than simply getting oil/filter.

Exactly how I understand it as I read through. Totally pointless to even attempt pointing in the "correct" direction.

I have had my Maverick for 3 weeks and have about 600 miles on it. I went on one road trip but normally my daily commute is 16 miles round trip and this is not the only car I drive to work. I will not be putting many miles on it so every six months will be my oil change interval.
I have the hybrid. And I've had Ford Hybrids since 2005.

You have the procedure a little backwards. Especially if you live in mild weather like me in Central California.

Driving less. Mild weather. Perfect scenario for the recommended 10,000 mile or 1 year interval. I mean, look at my oil at 10,000 miles. It's time and miles and weather and MPG and a lot of factors taken as a whole.

Ford Maverick Dealer says I can use any brand full synthetic oil for my Maverick 24232B53-8993-4999-BD84-7E200F4F8694

Spend the money at the dealer if you have confidence in them. But after the first time (go ahead, get that "break in" oil out at 5,000 or six months) 10,000 or 1 year is way good. Totally appropriate.

But it's a free country.
