Our Mac is sitting and waiting for shipment. So I'm working through preparations like insurance, Bedliner, and reading (555p!) manual. I'm stunned at the level of detail in the electronics of a simple truck. Last time I bought a car was 24.5 years ago, and I was stoked that it had something I've never had before----cruise control.

But now there is something called "Ford Protect" which is something like a warranty addition. I'm wondering what experience people have with this and whether they consider it worth having or not worth having.

thanks as always, Donald

I bought an Extended Service Plan (Ford Protect) on-line from a dealership in the mid west called Flood Ford. Here is a link to their site for Premium coverage. Ford ESP Plans (floodfordesp.com) There are different levels of coverage that you can check out. I bought this because the Maverick is such a new vehicle. I also used my Ford Points worth $210 to help with the coverage cost.

Yup, I'm glad I bought it!

I don't drive a lot, so I bought a 7 year 60,000 plan for I think $740. My 22 model year has been recalled a couple of times and was having electrical problems that I'd like covered for up to 7 years. I love my truck, but sleep better knowing i have an extended warranty.

There is a caveat. I see you are in CA. California legislature passed regulation so that Granger Ford and Flood Ford (the best prices nationwide) cannot sell to a person in CA. The 10 yr, 48k warranty I plan to buy at about 11 months will be less than $1000 here in WY. CA prices will be a lot higher.
There is almost nothing under warranty that doesn't cost almost as much as the warranty itself. Radio modules, LED headlights, etc.

That sucks! Ford sold it to me knowing I lived in CA, and the additional coverage shows up on my FordPass app on my phone. I will check with my dealership to make sure they will honor it... Thanks for the info!

By the way to have more free time, I usually use this website to make my homework done.
can't open this link, is it still reliable?

I have Ford Protect (Lincoln Protect) on my '15 Navigator. I am typically not a warranty buyer as I maintain my vehicles, fix as needed and move on. For the Navigator (Still in place for 140k miles to Sep 25) it has been worthwhile as the Navigator has been temperamental. Dealer service dept has honored the warranty without issue.

For my upcoming Maverick ...

I see Ford protect offered for 10 years at ~$4k for 190k miles. That gives me 10 years of service and any warranty incidents will not impact me more than $200 out of pocket.

Or keep $4k in an investment and use that for Maverick incidentals.

I will decide over the next year or 12,000 miles.

I live in CA. I got my 10/100,000 for $3440 when my truck had 15k miles. You can get it from the dealer or call Ford Protect directly. It is probably cheapest right when you buy.

I bought Ford Protect PremiumCare and I'm glad I did. With the vehicle being a new model (mine is a '22), and the things I'm seeing reported in this forum, plus my own experience with faulty modules needing to be replaced, I'm glad I have the extra protection.

There's some folks in here that pinch pennies until Lincoln screams, and they'll tell you that it's a waste of money. You just have to ask yourself how confident you are that this is a trouble-free machine.

UPDATE: I just checked with Ford Protect directly and the dealership that sold the policy to me (thru Ford) and my policy IS good!

Very interesting. What dealer sold you the ESP? When I tried to get an estimate from Flood, they, like Granger, say they can't sell in CA. If you got a good deal from a CA dealer, please share. If it was elsewhere, please share that as well! We've had several members here complaining that in CA (and FL, I think), they were prevented from getting one at a decent price.

What is the difference between Ford ESP and Ford Protect?
In late 2016 Ford ESP was rebranded as Ford Protect. Only the name was changed, coverage is the same.
