For anyone following along who isn't @baldboy and who has read the chronology posted alongside recall 23S27 (engine fire recall #2, see thread), they'll understand that Ford believes all engines built at ChEP1 meet sufficient quality standards. That the "robustness actions" were completed by Sept 1, 2022, so all engines built after that date should not have elevated risk of engine failure.

So, why would they move production from the plant where they've been building the current 2.5L variant and all previous versions of the Atkinson Cycle engine? ChEP isn't going anywhere, so it needs product to build. Only last year after ~2 decades did they bring a second plant online - VEP in Spain for Europe. Moving production would be a costly endeavor and it's not like they plan to replace all recalled engines, which would require ramping up capacity...

well then why have they not removed this so called error!!!

Because the sticker is clearly a mistake - an error.

All 2.5-liter Atkinson Cycle engines are made in Chihuahua Mexico. None of them made in Michigan.
Same place that makes the dog?

I have two working theories, I think, carry equal weight.

A) the label is a mistake

B) the label is a result of NAFTA: North American Free Trade Agreement and the label questioned is for customs and tariffs purposes only.

NAFTA rules are both long and confusing and filled with legalese.
There are copious exceptions to rules.
It will take hours to read it all.

But there's weird clauses for Mexican and Canadian products only. There's a lot of exceptions and wiggle room for automotive specifically (as well as dairy, fruit juice, unflavored coffee, but not for flavored coffee) weird stuff like that.

One odd rule stated something like (to paraphrase) if 85% or more of all product exported is purchased by one customer ( FordMoCo ) then country of origin may be classified as same country as the buyer, since 85% or more of the product will be resold from that country. Weird clauses like that.
Not saying that IS what happened here. Just sayin' something like that MIGHT explain it.

Again, this just applies to relations between Mexico, USA, and Canada.

Brief example:

"For purposes of determining whether a good is an originating good:

  1. a) where originating and non-originating fungible materials are used in the production of a good, the determination of whether the materials are originating need not be made through the identification of any specific fungible material, but may be determined on the basis of any of the inventory management methods set out in the Uniform Regulations; and
    b) where originating and non-originating fungible goods are commingled and exported in the same form, the determination may be made on the basis of any of the inventory management methods set out in the Uniform Regulations."

I think you are trying to make this too complicated. They are putting on the wrong label. The label itself says, only to be removed by customer. So the info is for the customer.

If Ford can make 3 years of suspect 2.5L engines, then they can also put the wrong labels on trucks for a few months.

Labels use to say engines were made in Mexico.

Ya, or some customs agents were erroneously trying to tax/tariff these "imports" and the sticker streamlines the border crossings.

IDK. My 2022 had no sticker at all.
I'm 50/50 on board with the simple mistake.

My HYBRID service manual says to disconnect the under-hood 12v battery before servicing, in a place or two. So?
🤷🏻‍♂️

@fordvideoguy or @Ford Motor Company can you get word back to the Maverick product manager they are putting the wrong engine country of origin on the "Parts Content" label for Hybrids?
