I currently have the trifold cover on my 22 but those pull down latches are a reall pain for a petite woman so I want an easier to open cover for my 23 which should arrive in the next 6 weeks. I can’t decide between the BAK/REV trifold and the roll-up so I’m hoping to get some helpful feedback from MTC members (or the wives) 🤞🏻

I’m pretty sure both have the wire pull to latch and unlatch the cover at the tailgate which I’m hoping will be easier. Otherwise I probably need to start lifting heavy weights before my 23 arrives!
FYI!!!! My wife and I had the difficult pull down problem. Went to the accessory rep at my dealer who contacted the supplier and supplier sent a hardware package complete with new pull down and clamps for cab end also. The new ones had shorter weaker springs. Due to most likely not being designed for maverick the new pull downs would not pull down far enough to latch so I removed the springs and put them in the original handles. Due to short threads on original bolts (had to use them due to length) I had to place 4-6 washers to lengthen the shorter replacement springs so the nut would tighten. The trifold is not held as tightly to the bed as before but the wife can now open and close the cover. I do not remember which end of the spring I placed the washers but I had to move them from the first way I added them to the other end. Let me know if pictures are needed and I will dismantle one and take pictures. I may have kept plastic bag with part number but I will have to look for it.

I have the Lomax Stance which has 2 spring loaded clips on each end. Easy to open and the Stance gives you full access to bed if needed. No water penetration into the bed.
I was thinking about a roll up but read many reviews that over time (1 year) the strips that allow the roll up fail, especially in really hot areas like Texas. The ones that roll up into canister have problems with the spring mechanism. Based on my research for what it is worth, I decided to go tri fold and then research led me to Lomax. Lomax has another tri fold that is excellent but not access to full bed. That model is same as the one for Weathertech, which Lomax makes.

I recommend the Truxedo Sentry CT hard roll-up. It's more secure than the soft roll-ups and it looks great with the canvas top.

FYI= Under your sleeping bed totes work really well for cheap sliding "drawers" that can be reached with tailgate down and cover won't have to be lifted for lots of things! I think I got these at Lowe's by

Thank you so much for all your info! When I asked the dealer I was told they couldn’t do anything ☹ Fortunately that cover is on my 22 which I will only own for another 6-8 weeks before my 23 arrives. I will definitely not be buying the same cover for the new truck! I’m glad you were able to get it resolved-I wish I had known this a year ago!

It’s a nice looking top. I will want to have it on all the time. Does it flap in the wind? The Gator SFX looks like the Ford one that came on my 22 and has the same pull down gizmo which is too hard for me to use.
Yeah I think the Gator is simply a rebranded one that Ford used...they all seem to copy Truxedo with a few differences.
The Truxedo X15 was nice and tight, no flapping or anything. I didn't really have any water issues other than at the front of the truck bed, but it was minimal (half cup of water at most). If the cost isn't a deal... I'd say this was a great option. I would put it on my maverick, but I dont need the tonneau all the time...so thinking of the cheaper option for when I do

How do you like the existing one you have by chance? I know it's a bit more difficult for you due to tension, but overall for water and convenience otherwise?

Boy, I really like those covers! You’ve now thrown me a curve ball with all the different finishes available 😱 Which finish did you go with and are you happy with it? Which site did you buy it on?

I took delivery of my 23 Maverick 2 months ago. I had done research on the forum and decided that Bakflip MX4 was the best choice so I had ordered it ahead of time. I installed it and was happy with the look and the quality, but when I started using it for truck-stuff, it really bothered me that the angle of the tri-fold is such that at 2/3rd open position, I couldn't use the back window to carry longer objects. Also, even though I knew about this limitation, it bothered me that I couldn't see out the back window when I was hauling larger items and the cover was folded up against the back window - because that's when I really want to see what's going on with the exposed cargo. Lastly, I didn't want to be removing the bed cover every time I needed full bed access.

So, I reached out to the RealTruck reps on this forum and they were kind enough to let me return it and exchange it for Bak Revolver X4s. Other than the fact that the rear corner caps are more flimsy (one came broken and detached) and lets slightly more water in, I am much happier with it.

Oh, and both of them are very easy to open and close. ;)

It’s ok but would not be my first choice. I get water in the front and back, not much but I have to be careful where I pack things. It also makes me crazy that I have to take the cover off to clean out leaves that are caught between the cab and cover. I‘ve asked the dealer to adjust twice but still issues.

What probably bothers me most are the buckles on the 2 sides where there are clamps for the rails. It’s just not a smooth fit and that may be a factor of the dealer installation.

This was the soft fold cover that came in the First Edition package which I think is the $599 Ford accessory cover.

Is that the matte finish and do you like it?

My dealer said it was non adjustable, which is true I had tried to adjust and had taken it apart an determined it needed a weaker spring. Then went to accessory sales and requested they contact supplier with problem and BINGO! Was not easy as had to contact the right person at supplier who had 80+ year old mommy! I also will not buy the same cover again. Most likely will DIY one.

Great idea! I bought some taller storage boxes at Costco that are shorter but I might get a couple of these too! Thanks!

Wow, great points to keep in mind, thank you! I’m going to be hauling some stuff that will require full use of the bed and some longer stuff and I hadn’t even thought about those aspects!
