Wow! That was a blast from the past! I test drove a Rabbit Diesel Pickup once. Wanted to time the 0-60 run, but forgot to bring my calendar for the test drive. That was one slow, smokey vehicle! The gas one wasn't too bad, though. Not exactly "quick" (even by the standards of the day), but it could mostly keep up with traffic.
That rabbit Diesel just needed a little Propane shot.

Or maybe a "big" propane shot... That thing was a serious DOG... (Ironic that VW chose to name such a slow vehicle after such a quick animal...)

Well nothing was quick in the lake 70's. The Olds 350 diesel cars weren't much better. The 81-82 Chevette diesel weighed 2200#, and had 51 HP. 0-60 was over 20 seconds. MPG was about the same as a Maverick Hybrid. How far we have come! I had a 160HP Propane shot on a 7.3 diesel, and man that 7.3 ripped.

Maybe it is getting older. Things sure change the older we get. Reading all the replies brought back old memories. I had forgotten aboutt he VW Rabbit, Chevy Luv, etc. Anyhow, the Maverick is definitely a winner.

The Luv diesel 4x4 was a really under appreciated little truck.
I would love to find a nice example of one today.

Datsun L’il Hustler. Ford Courier. Toyota SR5’s.

Remember when companies started retrofitting them with front drive axles thereby making the first small 4x4 pickups?

Everybody wanted one.

We still want a small truck.

Thanks Ford.

BTW, I saw 2 more Mavs today that I hadnt seen before so they’re being delivered. EcoBoost models maybe, I couldn’t tell since they were passing me in the opposite direction.

I have also noticed that most owners have disabled their low power day headlights and are running dark, as I am.

I guess the trick was to make it look like a "Real Truck"

That’s great!
Now if you could just lose the dealer plate frame….
Why would I get rid of the dealer plate frame?

It was free. I really like my salesman at the dealer whose name is on it. I bought Hybrid, No BS of anykind, $500 down, no paperwork done ahead of time, got MSRP, got my truck in 97 days (pretty fast) and it arrived on my birthday. I even pass out his business cards when someone asks about my truck. I do drop by and say hi from time to time. Feel like I won the lottery getting my truck so fast and I blame him.
