Hello, I'm still doing my research before I purchase a topper, I'm hoping to hear how your mpg was affected after installing your topper, any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

This is a very nuanced question that relies heavily on use case, geographics, weight and wind resistance…

If you’re looking for an anecdotal reply, sure okay but it requires more specifics. Would be great to just hear someone say no-impact on MPG but you know everyone’s mileage will vary.

Hello, thanks for your reply, I understand there are a lot of variables, I just wanted to see generally how people's mpg was affected overall, and if I should expect a significant decrease in mpg if I install one on my Maverick.

I wont be able tell you the drop as we will only be driving about 12 miles before we install the MX on our Tremor. But all next week and the week after I will be doing trip reports and include mileage.

I appreciate that, I'll just assume it would've got the average rated mpg and compare it to that, thanks!

Looking forward to details about your trip as you take possession of your Maverick.

I plan to get my Maverick ordered 7/17. Not real fond of the SnugTop, so I reached out to a local Arizona dealer to quote me on the A.R.E MX Cap. (I have the A.R.E V on my current 06 Frontier) I wanted to know what to budget... I spec'd it well equipped and it's much less expensive than the Snug for sure.

So, I'll be interested in your performance. Of course, you're going to have a Tremor, which will be different than my future XLT EB AWD 4KTow, but not allot. (Tremor gets the same lower gearing as the 4KTow package, interesting no?). I'll have 245/65R17 tires with a 4WP 1"f/.75"r leveling lift, so similar ground clearance.

Mine will be all stock for the trip. Our MX came to $4030 with drop down front slider, 1 windoor, roof rails(no crossbar), and 4 ceiling cloths hooks(for a net).

Very similar for me, but I priced seperately the roof rack and forgot to add the ceiling clothes hooks. The rack price was substantial, so I might just do roof rails like you did.
My estimate, and it's important to say estimate becuase it's not an actual order a this point because we know it will cost more once it's ordered, looked like this:

Thank you for your interest in our premier line of truck accessories. We received your A.R.E. product inquiry. Here is a reminder of those details:

Your Truck Details: 2023 • Ford • Maverick • SuperCrew • 54.4 in.

A.R.E. Model: MX

Your Cap Build:
• Color Code: Hot Pepper Red
• Interior Carpet: Dark Gray Headliner
• Front Window: Aluminum Framed Sliding Window
• Light Option: 12V LED Dome Light
• Prop Switch: Prop Switch For 12V LED Dome Light
• Side Window: Aluminum Framed Half Slider w/ Corner Fascias
• Window Pet Screen Option: Yes
• Rear Door: Aluminum Framed Double T Door
• Roof Rack: 80 in. AluRack Commercial Rack

Your Comments: I have an A.R.E. topper on my current 06 Nissan Frontier Extended Cab Pickup. I'm basically looking for a price for a budget for my Maverick MY2024. I did not want to order the cap from Ford as you folks have a superior product. I'm assuming no changes between MY2023/MY2024 that would dictate a different Topper design.

Date Received: May 30, 2023 - 3:37:55 PM EDT

Your Cost*: 3130.00/Rack with tracks 1245.00/Stationary 995.00

*This quoted price does not include all associated charges including, but not limited to, freight, installation, and taxes unless otherwise stated. This is not an order. To obtain exact pricing and place an order please contact our team to work through the necessary details.

Apologies to the Original Poster as I've taken this thread a bit off of your topic of MPG impacted by CAPs! But hearing MaverickMan's experience will be helpful to you to determine what you want to install on your Maverick. And of course you have a sample population of 2 for ARE MX price estimates. LOL!

I'm trying to decide between the ARE V, and MX, and the Leer 180.

I'm trying to decide between the ARE V, and MX, and the Leer 180.
I have the ARE V on my Frontier. Yesterday, I tried to slide a queen sized mattress diagnally... It was a thicker mattress than I had anticipated. However with the low height and tilting sides, it wouldn't fit... Ended up strapping it to the top (which is a pain becuase I just painted my Frontier in April as so had to be extra careful with the strapping). I know that an ARE MX would have given enough clearance (height) to accomdate it inside, rather than above. Anyway, I've seen this scenario played out several times over the four years of owning this CAP; It's always about 3 or 4" too low. The midrise caps exist for a reason. LOL.

No brainer for me, I'm getting the MX... And of course the relative smallness of the Maverick means a samller/lighter cap overall. It should be easier to wrestle on/off by myself and to store when I want it off. (I take my cap on/off all of the time.. the Cap Conundrum.. When you want it off, it's on... When you want it on, it's off.)

I can't imagine the increased height of the Leer 180 or ARE MX is going to contribute to appreciately significant aerodynamic (ergo fuel economy) losses in comparison to the V... I think you'll appreciate the added height of either one over the V. Obviously the 180/MX will weigh a bit more, but again not appreciably so.

I know I'm coming across very opinionated, it's just that yesterday's experience is so fresh in my mind. The struggle is real...

Thanks for your insight, that's part of my struggle as well, along with the looks, I think the mx looks best, but do I need the extra height?

The first time that you intend to use the Maverick as a Truck and you have the V installed.... yup.. you'll need the extra height. ;) Murphy's Law baby!

I'd say about 2 mpg loss on the ARE MX. So when traffic is shitty I get 52 MPG instead of 54. After a 1000 mile road trip I'm still at 40 MPG over 4000 miles. I've since creeped back up to 40.5. It's all about how you drive. Stop fretting, Roscop.

That's not bad, thanks for the info, I tend to over think things.
