My truck has been at the dealer for exactly two months now. I had a check engine light. They thought it was the powertrain control module, but it ended up being the exhaust and muffler system. I filed a lemon law claim and Ford is repurchasing my truck. I’m so sad! I loved my truck.

Seems like a terrible dealer. Exhaust and muffler problem is drivable until parts come in. Been waiting since Feb. myself. Giving up a truck you say you love seems odd. I get you've been out a truck for 2 months but only because of a dumbass dealership.

I'm assuming they will only buy it back for what you paid, correct? Or are they giving market price since you will have to find one on a lot now?

Happy lemon day! Enjoy that glass of lemonade!
The lemonade is bitter because I won’t get anywhere near a comparable vehicle for the price.

Lemon law is based on the sale of the vehicle, not market value, and involves the manufacturer, not the dealer, buying the vehicle from the end consumer.

If the dealer were so inclined, they could always buy it themselves at any price, including above the original OTD selling price. They are obviously not obligated to do so in any way unless you got them to sign a contract stating as much.

I’m not going to drive with a CEL.

Dang, I thought multiple different problems with unsuccessfully attempts to fix were required to use lemon law. This seems way too easy. One problem with only one attempted and failed fix.
The exact details of the process (how many failed attempts, how many days in the shop, whether you have to let them try "one last time", etc.) vary based on state, as lemon laws are state laws. Often, one repair that takes too long is enough.

While I am sure there is probably some personal satisfaction in having it declared a lemon, wouldn't CarMax have given you more for it?

How much longer were exhaust parts going to take? Could have rented a car for a month and made more money in the end I think.

Maybe not given the active MIL, even if still covered under manufacturer warranty...

In Ohio, I believe 1 of the stipulations/triggers is 45 days for the same issue. Your vehicle just can't sit there while you can't drive it, they can't fix it, and you are making payments on it (or have paid for it in full).
