Yes, I know this seems hard to believe, but Kirkland full synthetic lacks the required Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 specification that is in your owners manual. WSS is a Ford specific requirement and putting the wrong oil, even if it is the right viscosity could void your warranty. Do you have to use Motorcraft, no, I use Mobil 1. Use what ever brand you like just look for WSS. Fir semi syn the speciation is WSS-M2C963-A1.
Donā€˜T believe me, check out the packaging on you next Costco visit.

What would happen? Engine explodes ? Shit I put that in my last oil change. Should I sign up for a life insurance now?
No, you just void your warranty. If you have an engine issue you must show the receipts for oil purchases. Why give them an excuse?
I store my receipts in Ford Pass along with the date and mileage of changes.

The packaging isn't the Product Data Sheet. It's what marketing chose to focus on, not an exhaustive list of specs the oil complies with. Have you seen the PDS? Seems hard to find online, you'd probably have to contact Costco for it unless it's included in the box. Kirkland Signature motor oil is manufactured by Warren Distribution who does a lot of private label brands.

Here's another Warren brand of 0w20 full synthetic that only mentions dexos compliance on the bottle:

https://mag1.com/products/passenger...tor-oil/mag-1-full-synthetic-0w-20-motor-oil/

But when you go to the PDS, you see it is compliant with Ford WSS M2C962-A1.

Chances are it's the same exact product but with a Kirkland Signature label. Let us know what you find when you reach out to Costco and/or Warren Oil.

Until I see it on their packaging I’m not risking voiding my warranty to save a few $$$, but I get your point.

I would take a look outside just make sure it isnt on fire right now.

All that aside. I will be using motorcraft in mine.

Any API Certified ILSAC GF-6, SP/SN+ motor oil is perfectly fine, which the Kirkland Signature oil meets. Your warranty will not be voided just because your oil doesn't explicitly meet WSS-M2C963-A1 specifications. It says it right in the owner's manual: "If MotorcraftĀ® oil is not available, use motor oils of the recommended viscosity grade that display the API Certification Mark for gasoline engines." Guess what? Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W-30 is also ILSAC GF-6 and API SP/SN+ certified.

Ecoboost motors specifically have widespread issues with low speed pre-ignition and accelerated timing chain guide wear, that spec specifically addresses both of those problems which is why Ford requires it. I really don't care what other people do but preaching here like that spec doesn't matter seems a little careless to me.

You also either ignore or conveniently leave out the part where the manual specifically says:

"Use oil that meets the defined SPECIFICATION and viscosity grade. If you do not use oil that meets the defined SPECIFICATION and viscosity grade, it could result in: component damage that your vehicle warranty does not cover." Straight from the owners manual.

Why would Ford go to great lengths to create that specification only to make it optional? They didn't......do your research people, read the manual for yourself and don't listen to the "expertise" of random people on the internet

I don’t know, I’ve had a boatload of new cars over the years. Tons of warranty work at various times for various engine related issues. Ford, Hando , Nissan, GM, etc, have NEVER asked for proof of what type of oil was used. Just as long as there was oil. Either this is the OPs first car, or some service department messes with him, or he flat made this crap up.

It's not so much about warranty work as it is the fact that Ford has had serious issues related to the reason they require that spec in the first place. If not for warranty reasons do it to help prolong the life of an already very temperamental engine. This is not a K series Honda motor this is a turbocharged engine that requires a lot of maintenance.

All things aside though it's so easy to find a decent relatively inexpensive oil that meets the required spec. The fact that people are wavering over saving what? a few dollars at most with any chance that warranty repairs could be denied is mind boggling to be. It's either arrogance or ignorance I guess.

I realize all this. I responded to the dramatic statement that the warranty is voided

None of the above, far from my first car, never been messed with by a service department, nor did I make this crap up. I will use a quote from NoVa Jimmy two comments above which is directly from the owner’s manual:

"Use oil that meets the defined SPECIFICATION and viscosity grade. If you do not use oil that meets the defined SPECIFICATION and viscosity grade, it could result in: component damage that your vehicle warranty does not cover."

ā€œWhy would Ford go to great lengths to create that specification only to make it optional? They didn't......do your research people, read the manual for yourself and don't listen to the "expertise" of random people on the internet.ā€

Do I trust any dealer or car manufacturer when there is a way not to back up a warranty should there be a major motor issue, HELL NO!

It could be voided, didn’t it would automatically be. The question is why take the chance to save few bucks.

all interesting opinions but at the end of the day I'll go with the recommended oil made by a name brand and avoid avoid avoid like the plague, the generic big box brands. they're cheaper for a reason.
