Hi guys. There was some time I was after a Maverick but here in NJ there are no vehicles available and it seems there won't be for some time.

It happens I needed a (second) car out of the blue because my wife found another job which is further from home, which lead us to purchase another car.

So that was my clue to have my Maverick.

Drove one hour to PA to find a black XL Ecoboost FWD - which was everything they had - and I bought it. (eve though I had to pay an extra for it)

Now after driving and feeling it - I say I really enjoy driving the car it but I feel terrible bad about buying a trim-version so basic - kinda ashamed.

I look at that truck and think If I should try buying new wheels or something else to make it look nicer but I'm not sure about putting money on top of a XL.

What do you guys think?

No, i think you did good. Why make a cheap truck expensive.
Wish i would have done the same.

I got the same truck under the exact circumstance. I was initially unhappy about getting a base model truck but like you said, it’s all they had. 3 months later I’m loving it. I have added the 2 cubbies in the rear of the bed, cruise control, a power locking tailgate, bed tie downs, spray-in Bedliner and seat covers. Last thing I want to do are XLT wheels if I can find them. There are a lot of things you can do with the base model. Leave it as is or customize it.

You got the best compact truck on the market in the best color. What's not to love?

Do you really need any of the stuff you get with an XLT or Lariat? I got an XLT because I really wanted cruise control and the locking tailgate. Other than that I could give a crap and didn't want a bunch of extra stuff that would break later.
I added the cruise switches, used Forscan to program and changed the O.E. tail gate manual lock to a power tail gate lock. (locks with key fob or door switch) Now my XL Hybrid has those plus FoMoCo front and rear mud flaps, Maverick all weather floor mats and Maverick bed mat. Added two bed storage "cubbies" a Truxedo Pro X15 "canvas" roll up cover and cheap "Spider" hub caps and I'm done. All for less than what an XLT would have cost me.

I could do more, I've got experience on modification to vehicles ; check out the modifications I've made on my 1957 Chevy in the "showcase, other vehicles".

How much did you spend on powder coating?
I’ve got a lariat, I was just commenting on if I had a XL with steelies that I’d have them powder coated. Not sure what it would cost but I would think quite a bit cheaper than buying new wheels. I like the steelies with them powder coated black and then find some old ford center caps they’d be really sharp. Look like the old 50s and 60s F100

If I had went with an XL, I would have just Plasti Dipped the steelies black for $20.
Did that on my Sport trac last year and it worked great.

That looks pretty good. Maybe I'll do it to my old explorer. What color did you use?

My personal opinion is that both on the Maverick and the new bronco the base model with steel rims is actually the best looking. At this point it's actually distinguishing!
You are quite right. It seems as if every new suv, car, or pickup has a newly designed aluminum wheel of some kind, so steelies are a distinguishing feature. I remember a 340 Duster I had in 1971. It was Big Bad Orange with an orange interior, orange steelies with a chrome trim ring and something similar to a baby moon only with a few trim rings around the outside. Pretty cool looking wheel.

Anyone switched APIM to add navigation to your Maverick?
I've forgotten the thread but look in the Forescan forum here on MTC. A couple of guys added APIM to an XL and maybe switched another. They did a quite extensive write up on their activities.
